Drop Info Noise Filtering?

Return to board index

Let's say that some NPC A dropped a specific item in the past. However, after a patch, that item now drops from a completely different mob, but the droprate is low and the new source NPC B is infrequently killed. Therefore, the Looter will very rarely see the new drop event, although it will also never again see the previous drop event.
How long would it take before the new drop information becomes present on the live user-readable database? Is there any sort of filter in place that would prevent that data from being accepted or becoming available?

I guess a couple dozen different users slash their clients saying that item X drops off mob Y suffices. And unless the original mob (who doesn't drop it anymore) still exists in the current version of the game (say is flagged as removed, doesn't show its location anymore) it should resolve itself over a short time.
If there's a true issue of misunderstanding where you can get the item, notify the devs here and they will take out the data for the old mob.
Note:
everything related to Cataclysm changes was taken care of, as the database was wiped for that expansion (and archived at
old.wowhead.com
) so everything you see now on Wowhead is data collected afterwards.

That can't be true. On
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism
's page, the first three mobs listed as dropping the item have not existed since the Cataclysm.

We actually have a project to in-game 0 all the Cata mobs that disappeared and fix their drops, but with MoP stuff, we haven't had time to finish that up. It should fix issues like that though.
The problem is if we erased all data just to get new data, we would not have rare data for quite a while (things like the TK mount, etc). So we have to instead manually remove bad data, but there's a lot of it thanks to Cata.

Perhaps you could clarify a few pieces of drop info? I'm specifically interested in three enchants; there's no question that the drop info
was
correct, but I don't know that it's still correct post-Cataclysm (or even just in 4.3).
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism
(for Molt Thorn only)
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Advanced Mining
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Icy Chill
If you have that information, how recently were these seen to drop?
edit: And, more on the point of my original question, if an item had been moved to a different NPC's loot table, would that information appear on the website from the very first occurrence of the drop seen by the Looter? Or does Wowhead wait for a certain threshold?

Or perhaps, a different approach:
At one point, Wowhead displayed the patch number in which an item or NPC was
last seen
. That seems to have been discontinued. Is there any hope that might return? In a game subject to having content patched out, knowing with certainty what content remains is valuable.

This could easily mark holiday items as unavailable (and thus unsearchable) unless you include a special case for those and tag them individually. Sounds like more effort than it's worth.
