Drop enchanting?

This may sound like a sutupid question but it's really not with the prices on the ah for shards/dust/essences as of late:
I have 331 enchanting and was considering dropping it. Guild master has every enchanting recipe for WotLK (save for the new Ulduar ones), and most of the BC ones.
I on the otherhand, specialized myself with the Pre-BC twink enchants and have most of them (except 30 sp from MC) - that's inclusive to the 15/25 agi, 15 str, and the wonderful 22 int enchants
22 int sells well, but I don't have much time to be goign into strath and farmign up 5-6 essences per run.
tl:dr version: Enchanting seems like more of a waste of money at this time, I would liek to hear reasons on why to keep pouring gold into it to level it to max, or other suggestions as to what I could take for a second profession (by the way, I have mining 450 as my second prof).
I have considered skinning or Tailoring (for the bags), any suggestions would be helpful, thank you.

I'd stick with it. At least you can get your own enchanting mats and if you get up..guild won't rely on one person. You can get tailoring on the side.

If you've ever had to pour gold
into
enchanting, drop it this minute! It's not the profession for you.
Enchanting is a money sink until you have it at near max level and some enchants that aren't from trainers.
I would not take tailoring with it. Leveling tailoring will eat up your supply of dust and currently provides no real benefit other than a neat mount.
Consider taking it to 350, and then don't put anything else into leveling it. Unless something changes, that will allow you to disenchant any item currently in the game.
hmm well I'll try this; if it looks bleak afterwards, then I might move on to skinning or something else. Thanks for the advice guys!

I have enchanting and it is a pretty useless profession now a days, like you said all you need to do is ask a friend or guild for an enchant and they will do it for free, hence there is very little money to be made in it any more. I have alchmey at 450 and enchanting at 407, I would like to drop enchanting for jewelcrafting but that would take up a big chunk of my gold to level.

i kept on with enchanting because of the tme and mney i had invested in it.
im probably gonna keep it too. it is nice being able to do my own enchants and the ring enchants are handy.
i have mining too so get a guildy BS to make me cobalt axes which i can then DE either to use for my own stuff or to sell on the AH. another guildie makes me rings from the eternal i get from saronite nodes which of course nets me more enchanting mats.
it works out nice, i get all my own gems from Mining and have as much enchating mats i could need. this pretty much cuts out the main bulk of my gold outlay as i can get it all myself. couple this with selling saronite bars and titansteel on AH with dusts and essences and i have a nice income and lowered outgoing gold sink.

If you don't think there is money to be made by chanters these days, your a complete idiot. Since the introduction of Vellums, there is no need to spam trade channel trying to sell your services. Plus, you can buy the vellums fairly cheap, so just either enchant scrolls and sell on AH, or if someone is spamming trade chat looking for a specific enchant, tell them if they have the mats you can put it on their weapon directly, or enchant a scroll for them instead, where they can use whenever they are ready. and you charge a 5G fee to enchant to the vellum, and most of the time you still get tips also.

I am facing the same predicament with Enchanting. It cost me a TON of money to level, and it doesn't make me any money back... Enchanters are easy to find, and if they are doing my 'chanting for me I only have to buy the mats (screw rods, etc). I don't have to worry about winning those blues in instances for shards, etc.
My secondary prof is tailoring, and I WAS going to drop it and pick up something else... But with 3.1, Tailoring became the best profession for casters DPS-wise.
I believe that as soon as I have all the mats I need for a clean 1-450 run, I am dropping enchanting for Engineering. Enchanting just isn't worth it, what with the abundance of enchanters, the price of mats and the absurd amount of mats you need to level from 430-450.

Follow these steps:
1 Download and install Auctioneer
2 Check the sell to vendor price of any disenchantable item
3 Disenchant said item
4 Go to the AH and check the prices on raw DE materials
5 Notice that the value of disenchant mats is at least 2 to 3x the value of vendoring the original item
6 Notice also that there is no AH deposit on DE mats
The best way is to have tons of velums on hand to make money while you skill up. Most players are greedy as hell and will mark up enchants way higher than the material cost. You can easily undercut other enchanters and make alot of money fast, especially on weekends and especially if you're alliance.

and especially if you're alliance.
Right.... because Horde players don't use enchants? Give me a break.
uhhh...
I don't know if you've ever tried playing both factions but I have. In the horde AH you'll bring up 6 pages max for glyph auctions for one class. On the alliance side you can find 16 or more pages for one class. I get more AH sales in one weekday on an alliance character than I can in a whole weekend on a horde character.

Enchanting can make you either rich or poor, you just have to know how to use it to make money. Don't put too much time or effort into having it maxxed until you reach 75-80. At this point, without spending any gold on mats you should have it near 300. Now you can go back and solo lower level zones/instances to get loot to DE and level to 450. Also spend a little time researching which enchants are selling and where to get them. You dont have to he your skill maxxed 20 minutes after you reach an area where you can increase max level. Just make sure to DE greens from QR and you should be well on your way. Once you get it to a level where the mats you are getting from DE cant raise your level, sell them. I remember having like 17-18 stacks of infinite dust from DE northtrend items and selling them for around 85-100G a stack on my server. That payed for Cold Weather Flying, and other mats payed for my epic flyer.
You just have to realize it is a crafting profession, like all others it will take time and patience to level. If your that concerned with money take 2 gathering professions.
