Does anyone here still plays Swtor?
My boyfriend does. I will go back eventually and finish the main stories.
I just want to ask if it's good to pay for, instead of paying WoW.
I do play it VERY occasionally, and mostly because I want to see all the storylines, once that's done (which wont be any time soon) I'll just uninstall it.
The problem with SWTOR when it comes to pay, is that it makes you pay for things that should be baseline in the game. A successful F2P model is the one where you're rewarded for paying up, rather than penalized if you don't. SWTOR uses the latter, where if you don't pay, they throw A LOT of restrictions at you, and if you pay, you have a fairly average game.
Contrary to say..... Neverwinter, which lets you play the whole thing for free, and if you pay you get bonuses and extra perks, but the baseline game is entirely free.
I think it was a really great sinlge person RPG, in the style of other Bioware games.
I woudn't say "great" more like "average". The story is fantastic, but the fact that its an MMO means it has a lot of problems Single-player games don't have. Wanna solo that boss? no can do, you need a group yes or yes.
I think the story was good, there is replay value based on different morality codes, and the companion and class stories are different enough that it's worth leveling all of them to see it.
Agreed, The story is THE ONLY thing in the entire game that is worthwhile.
However, while I plan on going back and finishing the stories, I don't plan to play it beyond that because there is no end-game to speak of
Actually there is end-game, its just that it sucks.
You do
Battlegrounds Warzones if you are a pvper, and
Raids Operations if you are a PVEer, That's it.
The Operations are mostly mediocre, with lots of filler (Read: Trash that takes FOREVER to kill, and lots and lots of it) and terrible boss mechanics. And there isn't much else to occupy your time with.
and mechanically it's not as smooth as WoW.
Yep, the game feels very clunky, I don't enjoy the combat at all, and the skills on your classes are boring and unimaginative.
I'll use 1 class from wow and 1 class from SWTOR to exemplify what I mean.
Unholy DK arsenal of skills to kill stuff:
- Festering Strike: A physical hit that also increases duration of your diseases.
- Unholy Strike: A physical strike that also deals a second hit as shadow damage, based on number of diseases.
- Death Coil: Ranged attack, that deals shadow damage, and heals friendly undead units.
- Death&Decay: AoE attack that deals shadow damage every second for 10 seconds where you launch it.
- Dark Transformation: Each of your Death Coils increases damage of your pet by 10% and stacks 5 times. at 5 stacks Dark Transformation can convert your pet to a massive pet with 100% damage increase and its skills gain extra effects.
- Icy Touch: Ranged attack, deals frost damage and gives a dot.
- Plague Strike: Physical attack that also gives a dot.
- Blood Boil: AoE hit, deals shadow damage to everyone near you, and hits 50% harder if the targets have your dots.
As you can see, plenty of skills that are varied between one another. Know what would be lame? if we had 7 skills that are all the same thing. A physical hit, and that's it.
Now look at a SWTOR class: Sniper
Sniper skills:
- Snipe: Ranged shot with a 1.5 cast time.
- Ambush: Another Ranged shot, but this one hits harder and has a longer cast time, as well as a CD.
- Follow-through: Another Ranged shot, but this one is instant, has a CD, and can only be used after using Ambush.
- Takedown: Another ranged shot, this one is instant, with a CD, and can only be used in targets at or below 30% life.
- Series of Shots: A channeled ranged shot, dealing damage over 6 seconds.
So......... a ranged shot, a ranged shot, an instant ranged shot, another instant ranged shot, and a channeled ranged shot.
See the problem? no variety. This goes for all the classes I've played so far. Your bread&butter consists of identical abilities. This makes combat incredibly dull.
Also, I find the voiced quests and cut scemes make it less fun to play with other people than by yourself.
Indeed. In wow, you can level up while chatting up with friends in vent, in SWTOR? its one or the other, if you wanna enjoy the voice-acting, then ta-tah vent.
SWTOR would had been easily an award-winning game of the decade if it had been built up from the start as a single-player game with Co-Op mode. Imagine it, a Mass Effect-like game, set in star wars, where you can team up with friends to beat the campaign.

HeheSpiders are cool here though. None of them are poisonous, big or hairy and I'm not even sure any of them bite. My reaction would've been severely different if it was a tarantula.
