I pretty much only play DPS. My boyfriend is playing a cleric now- he started with a tank but started the cleric for when I wasn't online to play with him, and decided he'd rather level that with me. We can power through things pretty effectively with no tank.

I keep accidentally not reading your posts. What are you talking about?
Oh, and since I'm going to move to Portland in Nov, and won't be living in the mountains anymore, I get to buy my very first smart phone, and start playing MMOs again.
So, which smartphone should I buy? I need one that I can pretty much run a small business from. I was thinking about an ipad, with a bluetooth earpiece. Thoughts? Anyone?

Neverwinter. A new D&D MMO that's in open beta
Post by

@MyTie- Neverwinter. It's a Free to Play MMO that is pretty complete even on the free level. They're still in Beta, I think, but it's a beta that they're not going to do a wipe after, so we're already starting to level our mains. I play with the boyfriend, and we're recommending it to everyone. Go back one page for my full review.

Yeah, as a tank I can attest to the fact that the companion tanks are annoyingly effective. I've heard this becomes less and less true as the game goes on but at 28 it's still quite true. Also, in dungeons I come up as top or close second in healing due to my healing companion healing me with top damage taken. Honestly I'd rather see them tweaked to be less effective but as long as real players are appropriate valued in the later game I won't begrudge people having a fun levelling experience. I never got on with Star Trek Online (despite having good friends strongly recommend it) so I was very surprised to find Neverwinter a really good fun experience all round.

Yeah. Not to worried about gaming atm. First I need to get my business up and running, after I move there. So, it will probably be over a year before I log into an MMO. But, I will need a smartphone that will do mapping, gps, directions, scheduling, budgeting, bank interfacing, etc.... That's kind of my priority. Whenever I look online, though, to see what all the reviews say, they all say that the top 5 smartphones, are all pretty much the same. So, I'm thinking I'll just set them all next to eachother, and pick the one that looks the nicest....

@Alf- I have the dire wolf from the medium founder's pack, and it eats enemies whole in combat. Well maybe not whole, but he does wreck face.

Your best bet is to work backwards from the software you need, and that will narrow your choice down to Android, iOS, or Windows. If you're going Android, I can highly recommend
Google's Nexus line

I drooled.
The game seems ok, but the Foundry makes me quiver with the staggering amount of endless possibilities.
I am slowly becoming addicted. The F2P model is great for people who play other games, because all paying does is speed up cooldowns, and if you are busy with other games, then letting your crafting people spend the full 2-4 hours doing something isn't a huge pain.
Most currencies are available in game, and even the real money currency is something you can trade for (at exorbitant prices, though- lol).
Nice. Most of these days any time someone mentions F2P, I just shudder and remember the HORRIBLE free model that SWTOR chose, and pray to the heavens no other company is that stupid to make such a model again.
I'm glad that their model is actually Free to PLAY, rather than Free to TRY.
I am having fun with the combat system- the animations are a lot of fun. I'm currently playing a rogue, and the combat style is great, and pretty intuitive for someone who plays a lot of video games. The combat on my rogue and mage kind of remind me of Dragon Age 2, but with much more mobility in terms of running, jumping, rolling out of the way to dodge cone attacks.
OMG. You are totally selling me that game more and more xD, I absolutely loved the combat system of DA2.
My favorite part is the overall feel of the world. Cities are to scale, and fully populated with people you'll never talk to. While questing, you have to look out for drapes of cloth that are actually doorways with tapestries over them, for traps that are both obvious and barely noticeable if you are not a rogue. I find myself hopping between beams to get at bags of coins, or inching my way across ledges that don't look like you can walk on them so I can disarm a trap. And they're basing it in Forgotten Realms ala 4th ed., so there is plenty of existing lore for them to pull from.
Yep, sold. Now I wish this damned download went faster. GO FASTER!!!!!! I COMMAND THEE!!!!!!
@HSR and Elura- Some chicks dig scars. I dig scars, so there's my sample size and it's 100%. I'm not into other women, but on guys they can be pretty sexy
Depends a lot on the type of scar. Reina isn't particularly attracted to scars, but she doesn't find them repulsive either. Not even mine which can be quite disturbing. One of my most humiliating moments I've ever had in my life was due to the many scars I got during my time in sabaneta.
This was when Reina and I were still dating, we once went to a public pool, and when I removed my shirt........... U_U most of the kids reacted like they've seen frankenstein, they backed away scared, some cried, some mocked me for them. Eventually one of the pool guards told me that my scars were upsetting the others and demanded that I put my shirt back on, or leave the premises.
I've never felt more embarrassed or humiliated like that in my life, so bottom line is: Most folks (male or female) don't actually "dig" scars.

Rank- roll on "Mindflayer" server when you get it downloaded. I'll give you my handle when I log on WoW tonight.
About the scars- that's horrible. I'm so sorry :(
I can understand kids not understanding, but adults should know better. That's disgusting.
I agree that it might not be most people, but I am an odd person and what I find physically attractive is not necessarily what most people do. It's not only that I don't mind scars, I really do think that they can be hot. Especially on a guy who is in good shape. I think it's because I subconsciously associate them with someone who is a badass, thanks to the copious amounts of action media I have absorbed since a very early age.
I am sure that there are degrees at which I would stop finding it so, but I think that's true of a lot of attributes. I really like tall guys, but there is a point at which you can be too tall. I really like bigger-framed guys, but there is a point at which you can be too big (talking about shoulders and general bodyscale, people- don't get excited). I think if you made tomorrow's question the top 10 hottest video game/movie characters, you'd be surprised by my answers.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

Yeah, people can be mean.

lol, well, mine were due to the insane amount of fights I had to endure in there. Sabaneta is a very violent place, and fights with knives and machetes are a daily occurence, due to the way gangs have to draft new members. My largest scar is a diagonal cut from top left to bottom right on my back, which was from a machete hit during one of the many big riots.
Without any modesty I can say I "AM" a badass, at least when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, unless my opponent is a trained special-forces type, I'll DESTROY HIM in physical combat, be it unarmed, or with bladed weapons, as that unfortunate mugger found out the hard way xD. Though funny enough that side of me was not the one Reina was attracted to (as she's a strict pacifist), but rather my super-nerdy geeky side :P
I think its a culture thing.
As I've said before, this is a VERY violent country, and over here, people associate scars, to criminals, gangsters and thugs, and overall people associated with violence. A similar thing happens in Japan, where there is a complete social stigma against tattoos, to the point you are not allowed into any public spaces such as bathhouses, beaches, or pools if you have any visible tattoos. Why? Tattoos are associated with the yakuza.

So I saw
this
on Not Always Right, and I thought that it was one of the rare instances where I thought the person who wrote the story comes off looking as bad- if not worse- as the customer that they're telling it about. There's no question that 5 cents is nothing, and the customer was both poorly informed and just generally nasty, but the cashier seems to have gone way over the line of appropriateness in how hard she was pushing. The customer states she's on a fixed income, and the cashier's response is "How would you feel if your community stopped giving your check to you?" I just find that completely inappropriate. Especially since, if the woman IS on a fixed income, and is presenting to have trouble understanding a concept, it's likely she has a mental illness, is going senile or has some other disability of that nature.
What struck me is that the cashier says in the backstory that she's been very passionate about raising the money, and successful, so it implies she feels this free to badger everyone.
I'm not saying that the customer was right, but the cashier, in a professional position, was behaving completely inappropriately. I've done a lot of fundraising myself, and for someone to try and twist people's arms with guilt just seems really entitled and self-righteous. Beyond the fact that it presents the charity poorly, and for every person who might have given an extra nickle because of it, you have someone else who takes their future donations to a different charity. Generally, one of the first tip-offs that a charity or fundraiser is not on the up and up is when they are really pushy, so I imagine this cashier was raising a lot of red flags about the fundraising in general.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

This is one of the most funniest comments I've seen lately:
I think these NPCs are just hired mercenaries... but I kind of wish they were secretly members of the black dragonflight. Dextrastrasza and Sinistrasza?
Found
here.

I thought that I'd throw
this
in the bin as I don't think that it would serve any purpose in any of the other threads. I have to admit that even having been brought up in a Christian household, sent to a Christian primary school (grades 1-6 for those in the US etc) and even when I went to secondary school (7-11), there was a strong bias on Christian teaching, I have never seen anything like this.
Disclaimer: I am not posting this to bash religion or promote atheism but simply because I cannot get my head around how you can teach this to impressionable young children. It is also not an attack on the US or Americans in general before I find myself accused of that too

The thing is, there is really nothing "wrong" with teaching YEC, if you are educating your children in a Christian school.
The best Biblical scholars cannot definitively prove the discrepancy between the scientific age of the Earth, and the Biblical age. And the best scientists cannot definitively disprove the existence of God. YEC Christians have just chose to take the story of Genesis, and teach it as "fact", disregarding science, just the same, Atheists have chose to disregard the Bible, and teach evolution as "fact".
Children that are educated in a Christian school, and are taught YEC, will eventually develop their own theories and opinions on the subject. While there is a subgroup of Christians that teach YEC as "gospel", most Christians have accepted that this is just something that we cannot explain, but that it will be explained to us.
Science and religion doesn't belong to same place.
Only if one chooses to disregard one or the other entirely. It is Ok for a Christian to simply say "I don't know", when science and religion clash, and it is just as OK for an Atheist to say "I don't believe" when religion is part of a topic. The problem occurs when one side or the other cannot discuss their side in a civil manner.

Not necessarily, especially if you view religion as the 'why' in our existence and science as the 'how'.
