My first post was asking what the difference between hearth and heart is.
I still think it's a heartstone. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS.
"Stoned female troll."

Well home is where the heart is. And hearth is roughly related to home, so close enough.

lol, a hearth, if I'm not mistaken, is another name for a fireplace.
edit: The place infront of a fireplace

Oh and it's probably best to get different perspectives Elura. On the one hand, statistics show that crime rates in general are relatively low in the US compared to other industrialised nations, especially when compared to England. Though, it'd be worthwhile comparing them to Japan too... Also, there may be different standards of reporting. For instance, in
England
it is a criminal offence to carry a knife over six inches outside of the home IIRC. So what may be recorded as a "knife crime" in England may not even be illegal in the US. There have also been several studies which indicate that there are several hundred thousand instances of defensive gun uses a year. They almost always rely on self-reports though and their validity is somewhat hampered. We had a guy almost certainly strung out on coke break the chain off the lock on our front door, go into the living room where my dad was sleeping, apologise, and leave (figure he got the wrong house). In the US in many states at least, we would have been permitted to shoot him as far as I'm aware. I'm glad he lived. Another drunk guy mistook our house for his ex-wives house and stumbled in when my little sister answered the door. He was promptly informed that the police were called.
Anyway, the one issue where it is pretty easy to demonstrate that citizen ownership of guns does not correlate with an aspect of safety is in homicides. The "average American" is something like three times as likely to be killed as the average English individual and roughly forty times more likely to be shot. There are something like one hundred thousand shootings every year in the US, thirty thousand of which are fatal (including suicides, which are one of the safety hazards associated with firearm ownership, I suppose - it makes suicide a more convenient option). It is of course worth pointing out that while the US does have the highest gun : human ratio in the world, it does not have the highest homicide rate, nor even the highest firearm homicide rate. I think most of the countries exceeding it are (recent) former or current dictatorships though. Even adequate training and expertise with firearms is no guarantor of safety. A former US Seal and Sniper was recently shot at a shooting range by another US Seal.
You could also write a little bit about the history of the second amendment and the bill of rights and say that the primary purpose isn't ensuring the personal safety of citizens, but the continued survival of the republic (though, illegal immigrants don't get guns). It is a pretty big deterrent to invasion by a foreign power.

The plot's very good, but some of it is uncomfortable to read. Basically I have trouble with using rape fantasy as a shorthand tool for showing a "predatory" or "base natural" instinct. It's got some pretty horrible implications.
I have to admit, I feel kind of the same way. It doesn't physically bug me, but it's definitely not something I'd recommend close friends or family to read, just from that.
