Horror or torture/gore porn? I prefer the former and hate that the latter is an actual trend.
Well, one of my friends keeps sending me links. Every. Single. Day.
I get that not everyone is turned on by the same things, and that's perfectly fine with me.
But that... that stuff is just.. there's really no way to describe it.
sure there is.
Gross would be a fitting word.
I mean, I don't really mind it if a movie, or book, or game has violence if said violence has some meaning, or a point.
A movie that consists of people getting mangled and mutilated in the worst ways imaginable just because its fun for the killer/torturer isn't really entertaining.
Just recently I saw a slasher film called "Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet"
Really bad movie. There's basically no point to the plot at all, there's the backstory of a little girl who spontaneously got into a psychotic murder spree on her first period, and brutally killed her parents.
Gets send to an asylum, where she's raped by an orderly. Gets pregnant but when she gives birth, doctors say baby died. Gets into yet another psychotic murder spree that ends with cops killing her.
Fastworward 20 years later, 12 teenager kids (Portrayed by actors who are at least 30) party, one by one they are killed by an unseen killer (Starting natturaly by the 2 that are having sex) and the movie ends with everyone dead.
Killer was the daughter of "mary hatchet" who didn't died, she was just given to adoption and for no reason at all decides to kill a bunch of other teens.
See that? that's just the premise of a bad movie, no motive, no plot, nothing at all, its just senseless violence, and very graphic displays of slayings (not to mention a complete disregard of how the human body functions, no, you can't actually hack someone's head off with a pair of scissors, bones aren't made of paper ya know?)
And that's just one example of a trend that just seems to be going worst every year. Honestly I feel bad for the horror genre, since its been years since I saw a movie that actually scared me.

Oh and I've been desensitised to violence a little myself - I used to hang out on /b/ for a few months (back during "don't believe Ondore's lies"), but then I took an arrow to the knee... Err, actually, I realised that I couldn't change the mind of the majority of the people there, I couldn't get them to feel empathy (deindividuation) and they couldn't be held accountable when they did something illegal. The absolute worst thing I remember seeing was a gore thread where a dead car crash victim (presumably a mother) had urinated themselves - which they handily circled with a "lol". I didn't leave the site though, I'd been on similar sites with hazing processes, until they "dropped dox" on someone that had killed a cat. In my mind, going out of the way to mock the dead is a bigger issue than torturing and killing a cat.
That and another thread about the "two guys one hammer" video on a different website, where people were rejoicing in it and mocking those that didn't enjoy the video. That had a marked effect on me. For a while, I felt numb, as if every mark of human progress were futile and that if I were killed for no reason the next day there would be people that didn't even know me that would find that fact funny. Then I took things in perspective: as horrid and depressing as murders are, there are people throughout the world dying slower and more torturous deaths that are being demeaned at the moment. I most likely can't change the minds of people that find levity in the pain of others, but I can find ways reduce the pain of others even slightly.

"Atheism: The religious belief in a spontaneous, causeless, sourceless, purposeless, meaningless existence."
You know that's not right, right?
People usually use their sig to represent some aspect of themselves to the forum, this seems an odd choice because it reads as an attack on others. Given that it's not correct, it also reads as an uninformed attack.

MyTie, about your sig:
It's quite allright that you are a religious person and considering atheism wrong, weird or whatever you would wish to call it, but I don't think it gives you the right to have a sig like that. I'm a tolerant person and it doesn't bother me, but it's guaranteed to bother others. You know quite well that Atheism isn't all about what you wrote, and I think you also know that many of us (atheists) consider life meaningful. Stating that we dont is plain wrong. So please, remove that sig. It'll cause drama.
