This
will explain pulsars better than I can.
And, yes, thronarr, you may have a pulsar. I'm not sure you would live to enjoy it, though, nor the rest of humanity. Not only would it instantly incinerate, tear into tiny bits, and then crush the entire planet in less than a milisecond, it would undoubtedly disrupt the gravitational field the sun creates, if not destroy the sun as well. The other planets would also be doomed by your newly aquired pulsar's gravity field. Grats on tearing apart the solar system.

I'm not, you basically give up the ability to hang out with your freinds for the ability to be taught by unqualified people.
I thought parents were the most qualified individuals to teach thier children. Perhaps some government appointed agent would be a better choice. The government always has our best interests in mind, after all.

Thronarr, this is possible, but not definate. My wife and I homeschool our daughter. We work with the school district to ensure we have materials, and that they are reviewed twice a week by a professional. After we use the scrub, very basic, and uninteresting material that every other poor student recieves in public school, we open up the horizons of learning and delve into extraordinary stuff. We are teaching her about all sorts of things. She has read more books than most people twice her age, and gets more one on one attention than almost any other student. She amazes me with what she learns, and the questions she asks.
As for social stuff... she had a birthday party the other day and invited all her friends, which filled our house. We are enrolling her in soccor, so she will have plenty of interaction there. We have been looking at the boys and girls club, swim lessons, and other social activites, which are healthy. Public school does NOT offer a healthy social environment.
Also, I'm not going to mention the fact that she has an entire church social environment, because this will only invite more stereotypical views.

edit: mytie, also, you are almost definitely not giving your child any more than one or two very similar views on the subjects of religion and politics, while a public school (at least mine) allows numerous disagreements and debates in these areas.
I allow disagreements and debates in all areas inside my house. Argueing, no. Debate, sure. I'd like to see how you would hold up against my daughter in a debate about anything. She's pretty clever. She is also a social butterfly. We went to a wedding, which I knew a few people, and she hadn't met hardly anyone. By the end of the night everyone was her friend. She can walk into a room and light it up. She doesn't have to 'learn' how to cope with 'reality' in public school. Public school needs to raise its standards to reality.
Also, she takes part in extra curricular classes provided by the school district. When you are home schooled, you don't stay at home all day.
I dunno. Keep up the idea that public school offers this essential course in social stuff. When you have to compete with my kids in the real world you're gonna get a wake up call.
