Meters usually include pet damage. You can make it so Recount will show pet damage separate from the master, but it still adds the damage to the master unless you go out of your way to remove it. With your gear level, it's believable that you might burst up to 3000 dps with trinkets/wolfs/fire elemental/bloodlust, but they are probably more interested in sustained dps over 5 mins.
Low hit rating will hurt you, lack of key talent choices and glyphs also hurts.

More importantly, 2k dps is min for Naxx. The only fight with a serious enrage timer (Patchwerk) needs ~2k dps per person (excluding tank dps).
Asking for 3k is just stupid. -_-

No, its not customary. Hunters don't have their pets seperated, nor do warlocks. Recount is perfectly capable of combining the DPS of you and your pets/totems transparently, and it sounds like the raid leader was being an as
s
hat for the hell of it.
Some people are pretty selfish when it comes to doing old content. They only want people who can obliterate everything around them without blinking, not people who are actually
properly geared
for the particular encounter(s).

mundane:You then get the dps complaining because they don't want to go on shatter duty because it makes their dps drop and their e-peen shrivel up and fall off.
OT, but do I want to know what this is in reference to windstrum?
Because its funny, but I like context on funny things. :o

I could be wrong, but I don't see
this
pulling 3k on single target without inclusion of totems/wolves.
That's another pet peeve about demanding x DPS. Single target dps vs classes that AoE well don't give a good/even measure. Usually it's the single target that matters, and its easy to fluff up your numbers with aggressive aoe.
Shatter is from the
Ignis
fight.

Anyone asking for 3K+ in Naxx10 is smoking something mighty strong. Unless you're going after achievements with only 9 players, there's no reason why you couldn't take all bosses on with 2K. I wouldn't have even joined the raid if that was a prerequisite. I beat that number by a longshot, but to require that of other players in the entry-level Raid of Wrath is counterproductively stupid.
Fact is, 3K+ is Uld10 min numbers, not Naxx10. You're better off grabbing half of that raid and farming heroics for badge gear than to sit through the headaches of a crappy RL like that.
EDIT: One more thing...Shaman are not brought for our DPS, we're brought to increase the DPS of everyone else with our nice buffs (Totem of Wrath, Wrath of Air, Bloodlust/Heroism, etc.). While Recount separates our DPS
by default
, even going by those numbers it's stupid to separate them. If they really want to count our DPS, they oughta take 3% of everyone else's DPS and add it to ours if they want to be anal about it.

Raid leader was dumb for asking for that much DPS for Naxx and for separating totems/wolves/pets from your dps.
BUT I'm certain you weren't the most cooperative raid member either. I mean look at your sig. Simply, no. It's not that simple. Stick a mage in greens in an Ony raid, buff him up with raid buffs, lust when the whelps come out and he can probably hit anywhere between 6-10k with Flamestrike stacking and Blizzard, but it doesn't mean they are 6k DPS and it certainly isn't the "end of discussion." That particular scenario I posit also doesn't have anything to do with skill.
Re:
Yeah, I did 4k dps. In blues. Skill > Gear.
End of Discussion.

This poster ended the discussion on the first reply. Entirely this.
And again, you can have recount separate pets(/totems) out from players while still adding them to a players DPS. For instance, I do this in raids simply because I want to know how much DPS my wolves/magma/fire ele do on a given fight, not just what I do total.
Your gear, stats, and glyphs generally don't add up to 4k dps unless the following happening (1) heroism, (2) wolves, (3) fire ele (?), (4) shortish fight, and (5) good rng.

I recently did a Heroic TOC run with an enhancement shammy who was posting Recount after every boss fight and it would show that he was doing 6K+ dps and was showing off like he's the man. Why did he do so much dmg? Because he set his recount data to "overall" and counted all the jousting data, when my recount and everyone's elses was showing he was only around 3k dps.
Haha, this made me laugh out loud in the middle of a library.

I love teasing the guys in Uld25 during FL since typically it's typically the healers of the group in the Demolishers, telling them to pick up the slack since the Healers are topping the DPS charts! :P

I think I'd boot an enhancement shaman from a raid just for having a Two-hander on.
Seriously.

I don't recall the exact post, but it was in regards to the Ignis encounter in Ulduar. I quite like it. :)
