Come on guys, this has gone way off topic! Could we stick to cloning organisms that we have the definite DNA of (even if that includes improbable/undesirable things like dinosaurs). Sticking to plant/animal/human?
Dinosaurs are not improbable, you ever watch Jurassic Park?

I think you mean "impossible".

Nope, else I would have said it.

The technique used in Jurassic Park would more then likely not work in reality....since you know, they spliced in a large amount of amphibian DNA into the Dinosaurs, just to get the viable clones they had, and we all know how that ended.
Real Ending: Due to the frog DNA, the Dinos were able to change gender so they could breed and have lots of little dinos running around.
Since there more then likely isn't enough viable DNA in any of the fossils we have to clone creatures.

As far as threatened species go, a common reason is the lack of a viable population, in terms of gene pool, so it wouldn't help much there, when compared to the same amount of money being put towards conserving and expanding their habitats.
Not completely true; as long as the cloned animal doesn't mate with the offspring of the original, you can start up the species again...would just take a long while lol.

and putting them up a
woman's vagoo
with her eggs,
Thanks MyTie,
I just pulled a full on spit-take at my laptop in the middle of a boring ass presentation when i read "vagoo". I am currently debating the merits of a sig spot for this one.
As for my answer to the topic.
Human...no
Animal...yes, but with very strict limitations and controls. ***see below***
Plants....I am all for it.
As for animals, I would want very strict limits and controls, especially when it comes to the cruelty aspect of the research. I despise some of the cruel experiments that are conducted on animals in the name of science, however, I do realize that many of them are necessary for advancements in medicine and other subjects.
I also would want to see some very serious controls on the experiments themselves. Maybe I played a little to much Resident Evil back in the day, but genetic engineering just seems like it could create some seriously bad results if something goes really wrong.
I really think the best area for genetics is where it is already used the most. If we can get corn to grow ears 10% bigger, think of how much more corn per acre that would be. The same goes for all other veggies. if we could alter them to grow in drier areas or wetter areas, we could really be looking at putting at least a dent in hunger.

#19: Is the death penalty justified if the crime did not result in a loss of life?
Post by
Magician22773
If the crime is rape, or child molestation, I am for the swiftest death possible. the only thing I would like to ask, is that child molesters await the needle in general population.....in a cell that is out of the view of the guards, with some guy named "Bubba".

Death penalty is never justified, for any reason. Government is not an appropriate power to decide when people should die. There is too much potential for abuse. In light of that potential for abuse, I always say NO to that power, regardless of any person's actual crime. Some people may genuinely deserve to die... but there is no adequate judge to decide that, at least, short of being God.

Does hideous torture deserve death? I say yes.

People who rape, injure children willingly, cause grievous bodily harm to another deserves all of that to go back to them....and then kill them.

I don't think it should be a sentence for anything. However, I wonder if it should be a choice. I know I'd rather be killed than spend the rest of my life in jail, so why not give them the option?
Because if you chose to die, than you deserve to rot in a cell. If you want rot in a cell, than you deserve to die.
If you commit the ultimate crime, than you deserve the ultimate punishment.
Plus, after a period of time, prison becomes less of a punishment and just a lifestyle change. I did my time with people serving life, or near life sentences, and they had just seperated themselves from the outside. Prison, to them, was their life. And they made the best of it. As long as you were well behaved, you had more luxuries than many people outside did. You could choose to work, or not to. You could have TV's in your cell, and there were plenty of TVs in the day area. You had sports. Healthcare, dental care...all provided. The meals were decent (think school food), and if you had someone funding you, you had commisary for things like snacks.
All a life sentence does is seperate you from society and maybe your family. And honestly, just like a death, after a while you forget about those on the outside. Your life consists of what is inside the walls of the prison. The few months I spent in there was hell, but the guys that had been there 10 or 20 years were no longer being punished, they were being cared for.
IMHO, most prison sentences should be 5 years or less, with a maximum of 20 years. All crimes that would warrant a longer stay, such as rape, molestation, and capitol murder should be automatic death.
I agree with your premise, MyTie, that man should not be doing Gods work. But I see the Death Penalty as man passing the harshest penalty as possible here on Earth. Gods work begins after that penalty has been levied. If the criminal has repented, and accepted Christ, than God has promised him eternal life. God did not promise us a natural death here on Earth.
