Hey Warlocks!
I was wondering, why don't I see many doomguards around during raids?
Are there times when summoning doomguards hinders the raid?
Help me understand, thanks!

RoD now deals ~50% of a random person's max health and the DG is enslaved for the full 15 minutes then simply despawns >_>
destro and even moreso demo rely too much on their demons to warrent the DG while affliction having little to no benefit from demons gains the most benefit as there's almost nothing to lose in exchange
but then again it's a 30 minute cooldown, needs a reagent, need 5 ppl to click something which seems to be harder than getting 1 other person to click the summoning stone, not to mention most who've leveled a lock since BC or later probably haven't done their homework to even know where to get the RoD quests, care enough to do them, or don't realize blizzard removed all the risk/excitement from it and think it's too dangerous and unwieldy still
the biggest irritation aside from them removing the roulette aspect and the fun of him breaking free is that he's a powerful demon and ironically gives the least benefit to demo which is after all the demon tree
I say rework RoD to a 5 minute duration, 20 minute cd that metas the active demon
felguard into doomguard
voidwalker "texas ranger" into infernal
succubus into mistress of pain
felhound into hound of culuthas
imp into beholder
or at least those respective demon types
and allow more than just soul link to benefit special summons and enslaved demons and that'll do wonders for demo

not to mention the waste of it dies.
I asked my friend to summon it when we were about to kill
XT
in Ulduar 25. After buffing it, it had over 40k health. Thats insane. How can that monster die? And if it can, how can the other pets survive?
P.S: During that fight, it didn't die.

I am just trying to understand why the doomguard isn't being used, aside from the summoning requirements. Basically, help me understand why felguards/imp/any other pet is better than a DG, and why.

the only synergy that affliction has with pets is the imp's blood pact and the felhunter's fel concentration. aside from those very minor buffs (which should not be needed in any reasonably well organised raid) all they get is a small amount of extra damage.
this is what makes affliction the perfect spec to benefit from a pet that also has no synergy but does have higher damage output.
destro locks use their imps for a crit buff and demo locks have numerous points of synergy (master demonologist, demonic knowledge, unholy power, demonic brutality, demonic empowerment + demonic pact) throughout their tree which make the use of a doomguard a clear dps loss.
btw, who cares how much health a pet has? 40k isn't that much.

I was just replying to the guy who said that the doomguard is a waste if it dies.
Having 40k health will make it difficult to die, and if it does die, other pets would probably have died in its place aswell.

Soul link does affect the doomguard, you just have to recast is when he is summoned.
sometimes i have to recast it when i summon my felguard too... but then again, sometimes i don't.. it's really bizarre

imagine each time you summoned a demon it had an original name. felguard "bob" will keep his soul link until he's killed and you have to summon felguard "dave" to replace him. felguard "dave" will need a new soul link. mounting and dismounting (and even dismissing iirc) doesn't get rid of bob.
edit: as kallemio says.
