you forgot rogues also have tons of CC + poisons. That along makes us a great thing to have in faction champs, Usually I am tossed on paladin or some other caster (not druid due to mostly using instant casts) I would have to say it is because he is a feral driud and does not want to have to fight on gear....

Expose Armor
Savage Combat
Mortal Strike poison
Rogues bring debuffs, not buffs.
Plenty of CC for the champions... Interrupts being Gouge, Kick, Kidney shot.
Blind.
How does the job of Sunderbot affect a rogue? It lowers his DPS by a substantial amount. It really should be a warrior's job due to the fact that they lose siginificantly less DPS when sundering.
Warriors Bring that, and for instance, they also bring shouts, and sometimes vigilance etc. The list goes on. Modibybob simply meant that rogues bring little utility compared to other classes.
MS effect is not exclusive to rogues - Warriors, Hunters and Mages (to a lesser extent) are capable of bringing it to the raid.
As for multiple ways to interrupt, let me talk from a butthurt druid PoV for a second: "I have Pounce, Maim, Bash, Cyclone, I can CC in Faction Champs!". And similar can be said from literally any class's PoV.

However I'm always suspicious of people who complain about not being taken to fights on general forums rather than their guilds.
I don't believe the OP was "complaining" at all, but rather asking for information if his guild had made the correct, tactical choice to bring him or not.
I got the impression that if tactically it were better to not bring a Rogue, the OP would have sucked it up and moved on. No complaints at all.

And to the OP:
As others have pointed out, Rogues are useful in this fight for their Wound Poison and CC, someone even called it more of a "PvP" fight and essential to bring a Rogue.
So:
1) Yes, a Rogue is helpful on this fight.
2) Yes, you are a top Rogue, proven by top dps on other fights.
Therefore, it makes sense to bring you to this fight. A skilled player of a class which can contribute will help your guild.
So to answer your question, yes, the guild leader probably acted out of a somewhat selfish whim for gear.
What can you do about?
1) Stay in guild, complain, link this thread to your guildmaster, and get invited next time.
2) Not get invited, and quit the guild. Find a guild without greedy guildmasters.
