You do for the AOE leveling tactic (which is the main reason you would want Thunderstomp) b/c if you try to pull a half dozen mobs onto your MM or SV pet, it's going to get face rolled.

OK, to elaborate on what i said earlier...
The primary reason that you want Thunderstomp is so that your pet can generate
AOE
threat, not single target. Thunderstomp isn't going to significantly effect your pet's single-target threat generation.
Therefore, the main reason that you want Thunderstomp is so that your pet can generate threat on a whole group of mobs at once which allows you to employ the AOE leveling tactic.
The AOE leveling tactic basically consists of:
1) Purchase and equip Glyph of Mending if you don't already have one
2) Find a good area with lots of mobs (avoid mobs with heals and other annoying abilities). If you can couple this together with some quests, awesome.
3) Ride around on your mount and collect a group of like 5-6+ mobs (as many as your pet can handle at once without dying)
4) When you have a sufficient amount of mobs collected and gathered together, jump off your mount
5) Let your pet Thunderstomp a couple of times to get good threat (turn its other focus-consuming abilities off unless they are AOE)
6) Volley all of the mobs down at once, using FD if you happen to pull threat
7) Eat/Bandage to get your HP back up and repeat
Also, make sure Mend Pet is up on your pet at all times during Steps 5 and 6.
The problem here is that your pet is going to be taking a significant amount of damage when all of those mobs are beating on it, so you really need the BM spec to get all of the talents that increase pet armor, health, evasion etc.
An SV or MM pet likely won't be able to withstand the beating it going to take.

BTW, im guessing Crocolisks are probably best for AOE tanking now with Thunderstomp + Bad Attitude.
Bears would be pretty good too with Swipe, but it apparently does not have a full 360 degree radius which will limit it's effectiveness a bit.

Oh, maybe i misinterpreted that. I thought the pet would counter-attack anything that attacked it while Bad Attitude was active.

I havn't used the Thunderstomp + Volley tactic in awhile now, but i would turn off all other pet attacks and put Thunderstomp on auto-cast.
As soon as i jumped off mount, my gorilla would appear in the middle of the pack of mobs next to me and instantly Thunderstomp. I could then heal him without worrying about pulling threat.
Oh, another reason you want to be BM is b/c of Longevity which allows your pet to Thunderstomp every 7 seconds instead of 10.
*Note: I havn't tried any of this since the change to Thunderstomp.
