DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online)

As some of you may know, Dungeons and Dragons Online is now F2P. I decided to take the plunge a couple days ago, and I have to say I am really enjoying the experience.
First off, D&D character development is so much more interesting than WoW (IMO). There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter build, there are literally hundreds of viable set ups for any pure class, and thousands more when you take multi-classing into account.
Secondly, DDO players are
a lot
friendlier than WoW players. I had heard this mentioned, but never really put much stock in it; and honestly I was a little apprehensive going in as a noob. But for every one "L2P Noob," I got several dozen straight answers/tips. And I have yet to see a single spammer/gold seller/troll in about 12 hours /played.
Also, in DDO, there is no distinction between quest and dungeon; every quest takes place in a dungeon, and every dungeon has at least one quest that needs to be active for you to enter. And the quests are so much fun! Just last night I did a quest with one of my new guildies where we had to kill 200 kobolds in this dungeon. What made it different from WoW quest grinding was that instead of running around killing kobolds, they were running around trying to kill us. We were fighting tooth and nail to survive. The fight itself was a lot like fighting the imps in Diablo 2: most of them died in 1-3 hits, and you had to make sure to get the caster shamans first.
All in all, I'm very pleased with it. Anyone else play it and have any thoughts on it?

That is because its hard for an idiot/arse to get a hold of this game, because if you aren't friendly with your party members, you can't get in groups, so they usually quit at the beginning, so you only have smart higher level people. And because this game requires
far
more teamwork than WoW.
The only reason I quit this was my cousins were going off to play WoW, and we couldn't afford to keep 2 subscriptions up. And the higher you get up in dungeons, the longer they take to run (And they're your only source of experience)

Not 100% true, as you get higher level longer dungeons do open up because you're expected to be able to handle them, but there are still some high level short dungeons when I last played. Also, there are some lower level long dungeons - Waterworks was really long, although I have to say its pretty damn fun.

Yes, but you take a level 1 solo dungeon and compare it to a level 6 solo dungeon and tell me which one is longer.

I dont mind it. I dont like the whole Melee System though
I love the melee system, you actually have to do something other than right-click at the beginning of the fight.

You mean like "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2..."?
Oh, wait...

You use hot keys for abilities in ddo too; no, they aren't spammable, but it's much the same effect. The difference is that you have to hold down LMB to auto attack instead of it just happening.

I melee on my cleric - saves Mana, and you can't use Slay Living on everything. Not like you are healing all the time.

I actually jumped back on my old account. I have a level 7 ranger. Can you say hybrid class? I think I have a +20 to hit on ranged attacks, and a +10 on melee (Both weapons, +1 shock shortsword of puncturing, and a +1 acid bastard sword of pure good). AND I can $%^&ing use wands to heal people.

I enjoy playing on my cleric and there are a lot of very helpful players out there (still some jerks but since it isnt quite as mainstream as WoW it is less widespread)

The reaction you recieve is going to be from people who think in terms of "ZOMGWOW".
I went through it when I talked about EQ2. I tried to explain it's good points, and why people should try it, and all I got was a bunch of whiney kids that think wow is the end all of gaming.

Personally, I prefer old school DnD where you use board and dice. I bought a Legendary Evils pack last Friday, and I just want to say that I love my Remorhaz.

I grew up half a generation too late, in the wrong part of town, and with overly religious parents. So I never got to play. Since then I have played every single DnD computer game ever, and regret never having played :(
