Would be nice if wowhead could give mobs spell/abilities.
I know it already gather them, but it doesnt relate what spell/ability goes with which mob.

we could not know which boss does it if it was not of players comment (and experience).
This would really help to know it. Like there is the dragonkin spellcaster in Durnhold that cast a curse that increase damage taken by 50%.
New players who never done it, would really love to know this information so they would bring a druid or a mage to remove it (because when your tank has it, it really sucks).

There's no real way that mobs are "linked" to each spell in the original wow files, so it would have to be manually done for each mob and each variation of "
Fireball
" that belonged to the specific mob.
I.E. The closest thing that you can do is look in the article for an individual boss mob and see if we've listed and linked it there. If something is not listed, send me an e-mail (found on my profile), and I'll be more than glad to add a short article on a mob that lists its spells. If you're going to do that though, please only make it for instance mobs. There's not really enough need to list
every single
mob's spell list.

Doesnt in combat log mob spells appear like
"You are afflicted by X's Curse of Something" ?

Yup, but it doesn't provide the exact ID of the spell cast.

Unfortunately, a lot of spells share the same name. All ranks of a single spell are just the beginning--
Curse of Weakness
for example shows up on no less than 28 different database entries. Our reader would have no idea which one was cast. =/

Yeah but at least we would know that this mob cast Curse of Weakness. You dont have to link the real one to the mob, just a template of the spell saying what it does in general.
Like for Curse of Weakness it would say "Reduce damage dealth".
Just to give us an idea.

It's not that simple.

Seems like the best you could get is possibilities by name and tooltip matching. Even then...
A nightmare!
I wonder how spells are going to be represented in the event-driven combat log of 2.4.

That doesn't work either, I'm afraid. There are lots of abilities that have totally different functions, and yet the same name, like "Crusader Strike" for example.
If Blizzard changes the way they handle things internally, we may be able to add this. In the meantime, we're adding them manually for important bosses. For now that will just have to do--I don't want to start cluttering up Wowhead's pages with a lot of sketchy "maybe" information.

An idea tossed around last night between me and some random friends was to
possibly
tweak (okay, overhaul?) the Wowhead looter so that it would also get combat log - text (possibly with the combat log changes coming in 2.4), and then just leaving a link for the "search" on the mob's page.
Eg: In the combat log, we get "x mob Heroic Strikes for 9001". Right after, the mob uses "Evasion". On the Wowhead page, there'd be something like:
This mob uses the following skills. As a courtesy, we have linked the skills with this name:
Evasion
Heroic Strike
Thoughts?

Sky, you will be happy to learn that the Looter already logs the spell names from the combat log and that we have quite a lot of data gathered already. We only need to add it to the site.
On a side node, the same applies to the reputation gains from NPCs. We have the data but it's not on the site yet.

Need more data!
Data is the key!
