Nathanael Sopwith
Badlands
After the first set of calls, nothing more appeared to happen. Nathanael kept waiting in the shadows, dead still. But an urge to investigate kept gnawing on his mind; the curiosity that had made him a successful researcher was now possibly the greatest threat to himself.
He battled his own thoughts for a moment, then turned his head to one side. He peered into the dark and let his gaze sweep through the night, risking everything.

Character:
Ormador of Argus
Location: Stormwind, Stormwind Docks
Ormador roughly snatched the paper from Markoth and read over it, doing his best to comprehend the crude common language it was written in. "And vhere are zese bad lands?" he asked.

Though he did his best to see through the night, he couldn't spot anything, not even a slightly darker dark...but his neck was beginning to creak. He stopped and held completely still for a moment, listening for a reaction...

Suddenly a loud
twang
sounded not far away, followed by a slight screech. Someone had launched an arrow or a crossbow. Nathanael discerned no impact. Was it a miss, or a blind shot? He would preferably not find out... he had to make a decision. He considered his options, and they were few. He could not blink blindly in this darkness. Teleporting away seemed desperate, and the chances of finding another treasure hunter to stalk were slim.
He could, of course, attack. He probably had the initial advantage but there were no way of knowing how many he were up against. Initial aim would prove tricky in the dark, but he had the rock formation to use as cover. Tactics, tactics... all this passed through his mind in an instant.
He drew purely mental deep breath. Then he threw a roaring fireball in the direction of the sound, and threw himself as far as he could to the side, remaining on the ground.

From his sprawling, lying down position Nathanael caught a glimpse of a cloaked figure ducking out of the fireball's way. The flaming sphere roared on, exploding on the far mountainside in a bright flash, temporarily blinding his vision making him unable to see that the enemy was sprinting towards him.
He hoped that the sudden burst of light would disturb the attacker's night vision, and so began getting up on his feet. He moved as quickly as he could without rattling in the direction of the resting elf. Maybe he could use her to create a distraction, allowing him to slip away into the darkness.

Nathanael heard the breathing of a human behind him, and continued drawing further away. He moved silently over the hard rocky ground, but suddenly tripped on a small rock formation, falling headlong on the ground.

Lying face-down on the ground in the dark, Nathanael could do nothing but agree. He was caught.
"Got me indeed", he rasped. "What now?"

Nathanael let out a short, coughing laugh. "Stalking the stalker, you are...there is an elf resting nearby. I've been following her. There seems to be an unusual convocation of adventurers in these lands...", he said still lying face down.
I might as well keep talking
, he thought.
Just keep calm and wait for the opportune moment.

"Oh I know why I am here... I just didn't expect so many others to know", he rasped, planting his palms on the ground to lift himself up a little.
How unfortunate it was only your cloak...
"But do keep your voice down", he continued. "I would prefer it were only us two."
