When would one use Amplify Magic and for what reason/s?
I don't consider myself new to mage or WoW, but I am also far from well experienced in either.
Why would you want to increase the amount of damage you take from spells?

Dampen magic is used in the reverse situation.
For instance when one person is taking large amounts of small magic attacks (like warlocks in the Illhoof fight).
I use Dampen magic during PvP as well.

I have a mage friend that likes to run my lowbie priest through dungeons, and I usually have him throw a Amp Magic on his self. Gives me some higher heals, to help him out! :D

Only 2 encounters that I think amplify magic is beneficial is
Gruul the Dragonkiller
and
Gurtogg Bloodboil
. Other uses ive found for amp magic are in pvp. I like to throw up rank 1 amp magic if I have a healer with me or rank 1 dampen magic if I dont. Having an extra buff has benefits when you are the victim of Purge or Spellsteal.
Amp Magic is also very helpful for the Warlord Kalithresh fight, Last boss of Steamvaults, both heroic and non heroic versions. Just throwing my two cents in.

I found another use for Amplify Magic in tonight's raid. I made a macro:
/cast Amplify Magic
And I would wait for this one particular mob in Black Temple to cast a certain spell. The spell does 100% of your HP, so you need to get a priest shield to survive it. This saddens me. So whenever the mob casts the spell, I amp his target and its enough to eat through a shield and kill the player.
why would you wanna help the mob kill a player? and if it does 100% spell dmg, why would... lol this makes no sense to me.
