Wait... isn't the cool down on Evocation four minutes?

I don't know much about arcane, so take this advice with a grain of salt. The rotation that I'm told optimizes your dps vs mana usage is to shoot Arcane Blast (AB) three times, and then Arcane Missiles (AM). You hope for a Missile Barrage (MB) proc, but shoot Arcane Missiles anyway. Rinse and repeat, use evocation every two minutes when its cooldown is up, and use mana gems to prop yourself up in between if you have to.
If you're dangerously low on mana, sometimes do one less Arcane Blast (but not if you already have a Missile Barrage proc, you want that to go off with a full stack of the Arcane Blast buff).
Failing all this, raid Frost, it's fun.
actually no... if your missile barrage doesn't proc, you fire arcane barrage.. that's better mana-wise, and the DPS only suffers slightly.
Arcane blast x3 > Arcane barrage (or if missile barrage procs, use that)
that should be your rotation as arcane... To the OP, yes it's a mana drain.. that's part of the challenge of running this spec. but with arcane flows (as was pointed out earlier) you can evocate every 2 minutes... This may seem like it's a ton of DPS loss, but it's really not as you're going to be putting out pretty high damage regardless. in between evocates, if you desperately need it, you have your mana gems of course.
When you're on a mana "burn" phase in arcane, it will generally coincide with heroism/bloodlust and every other cooldown you can pop.. you will simply keep arcane blasting until missile barrage procs.. this is the highest dps you can put out, but it will erase your mana like crazy.. make sure your evocate is up, or with 10s of being up before you start this phase.

Arcane is nice, but after switching to Fireball, man, goodbye sticky mana management forever, I won't miss you.
Just read the arcane mage thread and it lines it all up for you. There's several different spell rotations and you choose which ones to use according to what you're working with. Longer fights you'll want to use your higher DPM rotations because going OOM at any point with Evocation down will see your DPS drop dramatically.
Frost is nice and all, and I find it fun in the sense of hitting two buttons, and an AoE rotation of only one spell, but losing out on DPS because blizzard doesn't want frost mages getting too strong in pvp sucks. Why sit at 4000 DPS when I can have 4600?
Whatever, tell your guildies to calm down, it's not like the raid isn't meeting enrage timers anyways (I'm assuming).

2b) after likely bug that enables 2a fireball is typically the next best, though arcane modeling is messed up and arcane mages w/mana tide are right on FB - TTW
so... you really do think that FM/FFB is a glitch?
you really think bliz will get around to FIXING said glitch?
do you think they'll fix it before they realize how retarded they are about the glyph of mage armor?
or the ignite munching?
and what exactly do you mean about arcane modeling w/mana tide?

I don't think blizzard intended the following
1) elemental shaman swaps to resto, drops earth shield, switches, drinks - go.
2) mage drops focus on another mage, swaps, focus stays up.
Those are both talented abilities. So for 1000g and some minor inconvenience you're giving a FFB spec mage focus magic. That just doesn't seem right. If it stays that way - sure I'll abuse the hell out of it. And asha will abuse it for earth shield.
Other mage issues are longstanding - this is more short term. Mage armor doesn't really bother me since I never use it. Ignite munching isn't really new and there are a plethora of blue posts about the issue and why it's hard/impossible to fix. Note: sometimes you actually get extra damage - it's also not worth altering rotations to get around it. So we all live with it,
point well taken, but blizzard not intending something to happen, and actually changing things that happen regardless of intent are two seperate things. I realize ignite munching isn't new and the mage armor glyph is a negligible problem in comparison, but is putting FM on a FFB mage really that big of a deal either? does it make these people's dps go up by a retarded amount when compared to a regular ffb mage (or a regular mage of any other raiding spec for that matter)? i would say, no probably not... FFB was the top DPSing raid spec for a while, then deep arcane, then deep fire/arcane, and now FFB is again. it's only slightly better than deep fire, and it only works properly IF there's another mage to put focus magic back on you as well.
it's not a ridiculously OP glitch, it's probably something that blizzard could leave alone with a minimum of QQing (no more so than there was before anyway)... Did blizzard intend for it to happen? no, probably not.. will they leave it alone? it's possible.

It's the same kinda bug as the clipping AM with ABarr to benefit from AB's debuff. It might not be overpowered, but it's not staying. :)
