Kicking people out of Dalaran == bad
Creating more than one capital city per expansion == good.
Remember back when Orgrimmar or Ironforge were the only cities with auction houses? The lag used to be just as bad there. When they put AHs in all the capital cities, lag dropped because people could go to the other cities and do their thing. Everyone started setting their hearth to different cities and the game reached a better balance.
Then, the next two expansions came. You still had to go to the old world for the auction house (I think this was their 'solution' to lag), but everything else was in just one expansion city: portals, badge gear, high level trainers, banks... everything you want in the place you set your hearth.
I think they should take their own advice and create multiple places of convenience. Just create portals between the major areas and plop the badge vendors in instanced areas. You could fairly easily turn Ebon Hold into a DK stronghold and cut down on a good bit of lag right there.

No
Because people pay money to play, and if they want to chill out in the city, chatting to people then they should be able to.

Don't you think it would be a good idea if Blizz put some kind of time limit on how long people can stay in Dalaran for?
No, not really. As leader of a medium-sized guild with a "bank alt" guild, I'm frequently in Dalaran for 30 minutes to an hour or more, cleaning up guild bank items, selling surplus in trade chat, etc.
Could I do this from IF or one of the old-world cities? Yes - but then I would get to burn my hearthstone to get back to Northrend in order to actually do something (questing, raiding, whatever).
I wouldn't say you need a better connection - you need better hardware (more RAM, a better video card, etc.). I have a pretty middle-of-the-road box (1.2ghz processor, 2 gig RAM, NVidia low-end card with 512mb), and while Dalaran is laggy, it's normally only when initially loading. The problem isn't really your connection - it's the rendering power of your machine trying to build all the complex geometry of the buildings and all the different character models.

I completely agree that they should make more than 1 capital city per expansion. If you split up horde and alliance you reduce lag by ~50% and add some flavor of having your own faction's city.

Excellent solution. I like the idea of having the Ebon Keep open as a capital to everyone. There's enough room in there; add in a bank, an inn, vendors, and then toss portals to the other capitals in, and you'd be set.

Agreed. Make a server-wide event in which we take on the troggs, then at the end of the war effort, we retake Gnomeregan.
Or make Gadgetzan a neutral "capital", with portals to the others like Shattrath and access to both auction houses.

Have every major city be home to all the necessities.
I do not have a link, but I believe the main reason why Blizzard did not put class trainers or auction houses in the "expansion cities" was to keep a decent level of activity in the original capitals.
It could hurt WoW's new customer retention if new players found all their factions' major cities completely empty of activity.

Want to know how to destroy Dalaran?
Put Portals to capitols in EVERY capitol city. I know that discussing private servers is taboo around here, however on all the private servers I have ever seen there is an equal amount of people in all the cities (minus Silvermoon, which is the most populated). With portals to all the cities, people have ZERO reason to put their hearth in Dalaran... They could hang around Silvermoon all day, and then go to Dal when its time to raid.
The only downsides to this is that travel becomes obsolete, mage portals lose value, etc... Although as it stands, every toon only needs ONE mage portal in their career to be successful; that one portal to Dalaran opens up every area.

Not entirely true. I have a pretty beefy system and can play with everything maxed at 1920x1200 and Dalaran can still make my computer cry from time to time. And if I log in in Org I am in within 30 seconds. Dalaran takes well over a minute to get in. I don't know if its a population numbers thing or just poor implementation of the city, but it has issues. And I am on a low pop server. I can imagine what it would be like on Doomhammer...
Then you must have a poor connection. I have absolutely no issues in Dalaran with Lag. The correct equipment makes a huge difference. My dual core laptop with integrated video lags big time. My desktop with twin SLI cards and dual core AMD I never see any lag at all.
