I like your idea, but it will be hard for blizzard to do.. FX, this should probably only be on PvP og RPPvP servers because on those servers pvp is the main thing..
And they would probably have to include some special place where the people from the city flee to, that have AHs or something so if one faction is dominant on some server the other faction will be able to visit the AH, and there might be people who you need to talk to for quests etc etc. . and that place is not attackable.
QFT. This is why it's a bad idea. The game is long enough already. 7 days of play time on the low end to get to 80, then you have to get gear. Lets not make it longer.....

I'm pretty sure anyone near this place won't be able to read trade either because of all the /lol and /spit being spammed in the Inn.
It's a cool idea, but the mechanics of this particular game don't support it. Not to mention, half your faction is occupying the other faction's cities which do nothing but annoy the other faction.
This=waste of my time=12 year olds ruining the game.

Hey, anyone remember the 'lich king invasion plague of doom' that came out right before WOLTK as a special event? I had a blast turning into a zombie and infecting lowbie alliance and horde towns (xroads was the easiest to attack). Imagine if the guards were not level 75 in the main cities (level 70 was still the cap >.>) how insane that would have been.
By the same token, it was impossible to quest as a horde in the barrens, or other low-level zones like booty bay or westfall as they were constantly being attacked by players that did not require you to be flagged to kill. This setup seems similar to that, and they did do away with the invasion when WOLTK came out.

QFT. I think that's an absolutely awesome example. Some kids around just don't know how lucky they have it, that they don't need to worry about their balls getting blown off by hidden land mines as they're walking to school. Which is basically what'll happen as you hearth home and try to find where your trainer's gone to.

Does anyone remember how stupid that zombie plague was? It basically made the game unplayable for everyone under L60 for a week or two.
The city PvP is a great concept for capped level characters, but again, it breaks down for levelling characters. It destroys existing quest chains. It removes the ability for lower level characters to train their abilities. Creating a WG in future with more city-like features and no timer - a never-ending world BG with city features - would be the closest in ideal.

The problem with this is it's supposed to be an entertaining experience, and the game is not based around PvP. Hence why they made Battle grounds and Arena where you can get resilience in order to fight more aptly in PvP situations.
On games such as what you are mentioning, there is no "PvE/PvP gear". You have good gear and bad gear. This is how the game is designed. This would be an attempt at merging the two, and is a bad idea because of the design of this game. Now, if they had, say, epic PvP drops when you killed a city leader or tokens used to buy PvP gear, that would make it more appealing. But, to have the opposing faction take over a city entirely? That's a bad idea.
The only way I would say this could be a good idea is if you only hold the city for "X" amount of time. Say 30 minutes, while waiting for reinforcements that regain control of the city, and the city can't be captured more than once per day. Then it wouldn't ruin the entire theme of the game, and just be an annoyance to the under represented faction.
The reason I say this, is solely because our major cities are refuges for leveling characters. Thats the way it should be, and is the way the game is designed.

And there's no way Blizzard is retarded enough to turn a MMO PvE game into a MMO PvP anarchy shooter. I'm not necessarily saying it's a horrible game idea. I'm saying it's a horrible change to WoW. The game mechanics aren't set up for it. Go play warhammer or WC3 if you want to do this. Hell, even CS or DoD are basically the same idea, just 3D shooters instead of RPG's.
L2 change games if you want a new design on world game play. Personally, I have a hard enough time leveling new toons, and changing to this system would make it harder.
I play on a PvP realm. I also park my druid near my chosen area of leveling and swap to it so I can rape any idiotic horde that try to camp me. DK's are notorious for being retarded little kids in STV and Tanaris. They are the new rogues.

i would agree with this idea but they would have to severly buff the cities leaders (thrall/varian) because at the moment its not that hard to kill them and it would cause chaos if it were this easy to capture a main city
