Holy: Spellpower > Spirit = Int > Haste > Crit
Shadow: Hit (to cap) > Spellpower > Crit > Haste > Int > Spirit
I'm going to have to disagree with this statement, but only partially.
Spirit is very important, but you should not sacrifice other stats if you are having no regen issues.
I've been chopping spirit off my gear left and right because any additional regen that I have that leaves me with too much mana at the end of a fight like Heroic Twins or Faction chimps is totally useless to me. I try to balance with additional haste and/or crit. eg:
Royal Moonshroud Bracers
vs
Bejeweled Bracers
.
edit: I suppose you could call it a "regen soft-cap" of sorts.

I suppose you could call it a "regen soft-cap" of sorts.
^ This. Basically you're going to come to a point with Intellect & Spirit where you have a big enough mana pool and enough regeneration to be able to chain-heal in a raid environment (read: with replenishment, totems, incoming damage, etc.) for up to 6 minutes straight and having used up all your cooldowns (Shadowfiend, Mana Potion, Hymn of Hope) and leave you with close to zero mana. Once you get to a large enough mana pool with enough regen to last that long, go for pure throughput (Spellpower, haste, crit).
OscarDivine called it a "soft cap" but it's really a synergy of group dynamics, content difficulty, and your gear. What content will you be running now that you're back? Will you push yourself to get into more difficult content? If so, then you might find yourself going OOM early, in which case you'll need more regen stats like Intellect & Spirit. Are the people you plan to raid with a solid group with full buffs, who cooperate well together, and can supply Replenishment? If so, then maybe you'll have an easier time healing them than you would with a pickup group.
Generally speaking, when I enter a new tier of content, or if I find myself behind-the-curve in my gear, I'd overcompensate by first gearing and gemming myself for longevity. Once I got in full 232/245's, I started looking at throughput stats so we could tackle more of the hard modes.
Since you're coming back after a bit of a break, you will probably just want to farm Conquest Emblems from heroics, Naxx, and Ulduar first. In which case, you're geared enough for that content so you probably don't need more regen stats. As you pick up the 226's from Ulduar and Emblems, consider that you'll soon want to do ToC and/or Icecrown which are much higher content levels than you're geared for, so gem your new stuff for longevity. An even sprinkling of spellpower, intellect and spirit will take care of that.
TL/DR: farm Conquest emblems and gear yourself with a good mix of regen and throughput, keeping in mind that you'll probably be going into T9 or T10 a little undergeared.
