I have to confess something first: The first time I *ever* played WoW, it was on a private server. I know, boo and hiss all you wish, I rue those days as much as you must dislike me. Regardless, the server was horrid. A player too many over the server cap, and it shut down. A played too less on the server, and it shut down. The perfect amount of players on? Yeah, it would shut down sometimes then. Skills wouldn't work from time to time, some would crash the server for hours, and others would kill you instantly. Neutral NPC's would be KoS, BoP's would be tradedable, and the GM's advice for all this: "You're SOL." After that, I shunned WoW for awhile.
But about the time WoW was in it's transition into the BC-era, my friends started playing on the same server. By this time, I had a job and a steady paycheck to support a month fee. So, I went ahead, and bought myself a few months to try it out. My favourite moment in WoW has to be leveling to 15 for the first time, after the atrocities I witnessed and played through. It was like going from No Name brand Margarine to high quality, farm fresh butter. Talents worked, skills didn't kill me, and GM's weren't even needed.
I was in love, and still to this day does this love exist.

My favorite moment was when I first started playing World of Warcraft with my friends, and then discovered the beautiful nature of Mulgore on my Tauren Druid. As of my interests in Level Design, I was thrilled to see such a beautiful world which Blizzard has worked hard to give us. This is were my experience with the game started and were it caugh my breath.

One time, at band camp.... oh wait wrong story. I remember when I first started my hunter, I fell off a waterfall in Teldrassil and died. Then when I tried to get back to my body I fell off again and ended up out on the sea as a ghost. I had to go all the way around Teldrassil to Darnassus so I could get back to the spirit and revive myself. That was really frustrating. I had opened a ticket, but it was taking longer than it took me to swim around the island.
The other thing that comes mind, which is just something I think about, is when my wife left me for playing too much wow.
My best memory was when my hunter finally got exalted with the netherwing faction and I flew back to Shatt on the dragon to pick up my drake mount.
Another good memory for me was when I finally filled every slot on my hunter with an epic PVP item.
After that would have to be when I finally got my warlock to 70 and took him straight to the battlegrounds so I could do some mass fearing.

I think for me one of my favorite moments was when I was able to get help from a group of friends and powered my Kal'dorei druid through the quests for the epic flight form. It was fun, since we roleplayed most of it out. I love being able to explore the lore from a roleplay perspective as well as raid some and just enjoy things. I also find it amusing that for all people call those on RP servers and such "carebears" my IC mate's generally top kills, top damage, and top heals in 3/4 BG's he's in. I love the game, and I love the people I get to play with.
I can say that while I took the hard path, leveling pre-BC entirely resto, and most of the way to 70 the same... it's been fun. I've enjoyed getting to learn and grow in the game, getting to RP my way from Shadowglen out, with friends that became ones I hold in real life, even after life's kept some from coming back to the game.

There have been a lot of great moments. One that I enjoyed was the first time our struggling raid downed Huhuran. We had wiped way more than we should have, and for some reason she was giving us trouble. Finally defeating her was a great relief. Too bad we started falling apart after than though.

As far as most memorable wow moments go:
Vanilla Wow:
The first time i ever stepped into Alterac Valley, all i could think was: "OMG this is soooo awesome!" i used to kite korrak into the fight for fun :P
Burning Crusade:
Stepping through the Dark portal to see a battle raging, that was also awesome.
