Starting with the vanilla WoW cinematic shaman have been in close contact or communed with nature. While I think Thunderstorm is fun, why is it that Druids are the ones channelling nature AOE dmg and not us?
Resto - Chain Heal is getting a nice buff, but again - I like the channelled idea.
Easy balancing for PVE vs PVP as long channelled spell would be begging for a interrupt/lockout.
Probably more for discussion and consideration in the next expansion...
cheers

Mostly because this is a fictional world and the authors do whatever fits based on fan suggestions/complaints. I don't think Hurricane is a
bad
fit for druids, in fact, I think it's just as appropriate for them as it would be for shamans.
Shamans seem more earthy than nature-y. I don't see why they couldn't do an earthquake channeling spell.

If they give the shaman class an AoE, they should make thunderstorm a baseline skill and make the elemental tree 51 point talent. Anyone who has played Warcraft III will know exactly how nasty that spell was.

I also feel like, since Paladins and Shamans were supposed to be the equal but opposite classes... and since Paladins can dish out Holy damage (which there is no resistance for) that shamans should ...
I'm normally a silent lurker to these boards but i think a common misconception needs to be cleared up here, all paladin damage these days is physical because holy can't be resisted and that which isn't "holy shock" can be resisted in part because of... but i will happily back that up with a screen shot of my holy shock being resisted. (Yes at the start of wrath ret paladins had pure holy damage and 2 shot people in arena 'it has been hotfix city since').
PS. sorry for adding nothing to the topic

So thinking this over a little more with the above comments
(awesome feedback tyvm)
thoughts on making Thunderstorm a baseline spell with a longer cool down and increased mana return.
Earthquake as a channelled AOE 30 yard range dealing 50/50 nature/ fire damage every second similar to Hurricane. High mana cost no CD would give Elemental true AOE.
Restoration presents greater challenge to me as I generally like Riptide and I'm not sure how to really work in a channelled AOE heal within the talent tree. I'd lean towards a weak AOE heal that increases healing done for the next 20 seconds or along that line. I'll edit this part later after I've mulled it over some more.

Spirit link. The shaman class was supposed to get that ability (from WCII TFT) as their 51 point heal talent, but instead was given riptide (A pretty lackluster trade >.<). Spirit link split the damage between party members amongest each other, so it was technically an AoE 'prevention' spell. I am hoping they will add it in eventually.

Turns the area around the shaman in a pool of water for 20 seconds. Increases healing taken by those standing in the pool of water by heals of the caster of this spell by 10%. When healed by chain heal of the caster of this spell there is a 25% chance for chain heal to bounce to an extra target.
I really like this idea, but the one suggestion I would make is that instead of it being solely around the Shaman, it be something with some range. It would be quite handy to place down for the melee.

The only problem is Earthquake was a snaring, building destroyer ;) In the campaign it was fun to toss Thrall into a bass camp with Earthquake up and nuke down the fortress.
Could be useful in Wintergrasp... "Screw Siegetanks, we have 5 shamans!" :D

I'd like Earthquake, Far Seers in WC3 could do it, so why we couldn't?
