My complete boredom and inability to find anything fun to do has recently been grinding my nerves to the edge. I've been talking to a friend of mine who still plays WoW and we spent a few hours reminiscing over the old WoW Comic Contest and Fan Art section. Off topic to the actual subject, that stuff is AMAZING. To get to a point, while I stopped playing WoW in the middle of the big Burning Crusade rush, I've been looking at WoW
stuff
again like UI modifications and Elitist Jerks. It makes me wonder what the current state of WoW is and if and old, somewhat weathered WoW player would see anything new if he (specifically
me
) hopped back into the game. I left because I felt a large amount of dissatisfaction playing WoW back then. Would I get any joy out of the game again if I came back?
Man, that last line makes me sound really emotional about the question. >.>

WotLK came. I did all the quests and was like "Awesome!". Then I did the quests a second time and was like "meh". Then I completed naxx like 20 times and was like "meh". Then I went to Ulduar.
WOAH
Ulduar is the new shiz. Come and play, little boy. Come and play.

Ok let me put it into a little story for you:
So I am wondering along on my Paladin on my nice epic Charger. Just finished a quest, having a great time, very relaxed. I spot a group of Murlocs and think to myself :
"God i hate murlocs."
Anyway, i couldnt be bothered to go around them so I thought Id just run through. Again I thought to myself:
"If one of these things knocks me off my mount god help them, please dont I just want to get back to the quest giver."
Well I got knocked off, and turned around to the Murloc and in 3 hits pounded his face into the ground. I turned to another and whapped him around like a baby. Before I knew it, id spent 25 minites wiping out an entire village of Murlocs for no reason, and I barely had to lift a finger. Afterwards I felt so happy, I came out of my own little world of Pain Giving and rode off.
Moments like that is why I play WOW. Its just another world, where you can do what you want!
Win.
I love tales that involve slaughtering entire villages in pure bloodlust to alleviate boredom. Our society prevents so many of us from getting to live out these tales, and if we do, we seldom survive to tell them.
Wrath of the Lich King made us all know how it felt to become powerful with ease in 3.0.x. The first quest bunch of quest greens you get in Northrend are on par with or replace your best lvl 70 raid gear, and the instances and early raids were total facerolls (Group trash up;AoE it;find/kill boss;dole out loot;repeat). It was a blast, at least for a while (go back a month or so and read the 'game too easy qq threads everywhere on wowhead) and Northrend is well... I love Northrend.
3.1 brought us Ulduar, the first raid requiring actual cohesive raid progression of the expansion - and it looks, feels, and plays as epic as its supposed to thus far (My guild is only halfway through it on 10man and a quarter through on 25man) and I only expect it to get better. It rocks.
Those are the positives. The negatives to WoW are still there, and include but are not limited to:
~Asshats (anonymity + internet connection = these)
~Fails ("HAHA L2PLAY NUB I R IMBA UBER LEET DPS )
~devoured free time
~ganking, griefing, and competing with the entire rest of the server for limited quantities of mobs/items/nodes/what have you for daily quests
~More asshats
~keylogger/spyware spreading gold seller bot people (these may fall into the asshat category, but I think they deserve their own mention)
Despite the negatives, the positives win. WoW is great. That is all. Come back if ya want. :)

It's impossible to answer your question without knowing more or less why you quit. There is quite a lot of new content. There have been several major new content patches and an entire expansion.
I have to say that I prefer the atmosphere and lore of Northrend to Outlands. WotLK in that sense seems to add more than BC did (as far as I can now tell, as I only started playing a few months before WotLK came out).
I'd say, crack open that old copy of Wow and have a gander.

This. Just the other day I had a quest in Dragonblight where I had to save some villagers from the scourge. I got the amount I needed in about 5 minutes, but ended up taking another 20 or so minutes saving others just because I felt bad for them.
WoW rocks. If you get bored of something, find something else in the game or just move to a new area. Not too mention new things are constantly added or a different holiday is going on.

I'm updating the game as I type and have my account flagged for the WoTLK trial. We shall see.
I will admit, the first and only thing I may end up doing is playing a Dead Knight. :)

If you're gonna do that, make sure you read up on mechanics and playstyles. You don't want to get a reputation as a DeathKnub.
I'm a huge number junkie and a fan of the Elitist Jerks forums. I'm not worried about it.

The biggest annoyance/change you're going to encounter is Death Knights.
They are highly over-populated and start at level 55.
Some are really good, while others are complete noobs who leveled a character to 55, then immediately rerolled a Death Knight to be OP. It's sometimes hard to tell a terrible Death Knight from a good one. Mainly due to the fact it's so incredibly easy to obtain gear once you're at level 80.
Don't take this as me saying, "don't bother coming back".
I mean, look at me, i've been playing forever and I am still here.

Actually the biggest annoyance you're going to encounter are people like this guy. The people who refuse to just focus on their character and have fun, and instead focus on everyone else and hate on other factions, races, or classes. Just play the game. If you don't like a specific class, then don't play it. The only noobs are the people who constantly complain about other players.

He's not saying he hates all the Death Knights, he said some are good and some are terrible, and we all hate the terrible Deathnubs, myself included. I refuse to focus on my character only if I have to group with a bunch of retards who don't know their class. WoW is not a single-player game.
So only dks don't know how to play their class? And actually yes, WoW can be a single player game. It's called questing. This is why WoW is so great. There are so many different ways to play it.

I thought you'd get the meaning of my post, but I guess that's not going to happen.
@ OP
WoW is still an "ok" time-killer, nothing too fancy thou.
You're not that intellectual that people "don't get" your posts. Don't flatter yourself. I get it. You're saying some dks suck and some don't. I'm saying it's that way with any class. Don't single out dks.
