I have a ret pally (that is it, though i am trying to get tank gear together.) I don;t do much, just dinged 80 a coupla weeks ago, but here it is
On a dummy i do 1.9-2.1k dps
In five mans i do about 2.3k dps
and in raids i do about 2.8k dps.
here is my character sheet.
And yes, i have a few sub-par gear, just getting some crafted stuff till i can go to naxx again, and till i get some better gems/enchants

And thank you.
I suppose 3 datasets are enough for now.

My ret gear is very average (ie. not even a complete set.) but from the top of my head numbers are
Dummy - 2.3k
5man - 2.7-3k (depending on group make up)
raid (10man) - 3.2k ish
raid (25man) - 3.4k ish (don't do many 25mans)
i'll throw together a profiler and confirm the numbers if you would like, would you like numbers with different seals also, those are all with
seal of vengeance
?

Alright, ran the simulation enough that I'm tired of it, I'm sure there are faults in in, but it's close enough that I really don't care.
Conclusion: I'm seeing roughly 2500-4000 DPS for below ilevel 200-219 and 5500-6500 DPS for below ilevel 232-245 in ideal conditions, with: that's about 1k per ilevel jump. (200, 213/219, 226, 232/239, 245/258)
I'm under the impression that it's subpar to other DPS, but I'm not sure on that.
0.1 weapon speed is worth 2-3 weapon DPS, not 5 as I've been told and idealized, which is about 10-40 DPS done depending on gear level.
1 Handed rotation with T10-2P bonus (the main reason I wanted to do this experiment) drops DPS by about 250-300, almost regardless of gear level.

T10 2pc is the increase seal/judgement damage, right?
Why would there be any benefit to using a 1-hander?

In case you need another set of data:
Thanks, that still seems consistent with the othe datasets.
@Squishalot, like Omentuva said, the T10 2P bonus is a 40% chance to proc it, which means with a 1.5 sec weapon you can spam DS every second attack, and with 2.6 speed, you can spam it about every 3-4 attacks (replace non-procs with something like exo or consecration) in a raid (20% melee haste + haste from gear + 3% haste = less than 1.2-1.8 attack speed with a one hander)
In the current rotation, there is about 10-12% blank time in a retribution's rotation (3-4 seconds per 32-33.5) that you don't do anything, most ret paladins replace this with FoL, SS, or DP. With the T10 2P bonus, you can expect to see people being able to squeeze in 1 DS (unless the proc is higher than I estimated) which is 5-8% blank time.
Although, if you think about it, 250 DPS isn't a lot of loss at 6-8k DPS (~4%) especially in PvP against melee...

Sorry, haven't read much, but did you try using a 1 hander for an aoe fight?
Post by
blademeld
No I have not.
Although I'm actually convinced that it may tip the balance in favor of the 1h.

Ah ok, I've got outdated information then. Sounds like a worthy exercise.
Not sure if you've considered though, by switching to a one-hander, your FCFS order may change, because your CS/DS will do significantly lower damage. Also - did you include ShoR into your FCFS now too? I don't think it'll do much, all things considered, it might eat up dead-time if you have a full GCD free.
Edit:

It would be better in PvP, for the simple basis that your burst is improved (refreshes DS faster, and you get ShoR) and you'll get more frequent healing.

Yes
Yes
Yes and no, the heals will be smaller.

The reasoning behind slow > fast in pvp is a whole different thing then a training dummy.
What matters in pvp is that usually you have low ToT.
And because of that, you will want your auto swings to do the most possible damage along with your global (you may have the chance to use 1 or maybe 2 sometimes).
That's why CS nerf did hurt so bad; with low ToT in pvp you want few but hard hitting abilities, not alot of small strikes.
DKs were (are?) successful also because of their snaring abilities; without that, a diseaseless frost strike or blood strike will hit for crap. And you need 3 seconds to apply both diseases, do you always have that much ToT? Sometimes yes, sometimes not.
Now, if you want to discuss about prot's utility, more then welcome.
But ret sword and board arena is nothing you should spend your time theorycrafting on.
If you're talking about simple BGs/WG/world ganking, anything works... or doesnt.

Why not? You haven't given us any theorycrafting to the contrary. Don't say someone else's theorycrafting is bad unless you provide your own to prove them wrong.
