How about a set of spells/abilities and a special Armor spell which lets us go melee when activated? Actually sounds fun, just for the thrill of it...
I don't know if i should say "lol" or "fail". Maybe "failol"?

Mind you Cataclysm is set in a tropical environment. Little room for frost spells!
Conjure Refreshment (Rank 3)
Conjures a long drink bar for your allies. Long drinks restore 180,000 mana over 2 minutes.
Polymorph: Jellyfish.
Transforms your target into a jellyfish for 60 seconds. This spell can only be used on swimming enemies.

I might be mistaken, but didn't Blizz say there would be no new spells for Cataclysm?

Seems theres a large quanity of win in the sector.
I have no idea about changing the animations for the mage armors. They do what they intend. Its clear to see when a mage swaps armor, and isn't distracting. Most importantly it doesn't alter what spells i can use like stance/form shifting does for warriors/druids/spriests. I don't want to deal with that kind of baggage.
But going on, since i'm a large theorycrafter.
Ice Shards seems terribly pointless. Saving mana?
Thats the last reason i'd want to cast a spell. At least in the current enviroment i find as a mage only arcane has "mana" issues, the other 3 specs are unable to go oom. PvP they can go OOM, but i don't see another dot acheiving anything.
And as for arcane going oom, they have more then a few tricks to get mana back and keep it. Its just they are the only spec that has the option of going oom, the others can't.
Ice Pillar would be interesting to see implemented. But i can't see it being an instant-cast. I'm thinking a 2 second timed spell. If it was instant-cast the pvp prospects make it seem hard to balance around. A 2 second cast time would allow interesting prospects, mostly used offensivly not so much defensivly.
I'm thinkign what my mage could want in pvp, and i find him wanting for little, althought i wouldn't mind a fun tool to play around with, or safer way to generate mana.
Something that works well with all 3 specs, are arcane utility spells. So two ideas that will never see the light of day.
Spellbinding
Instant Cast. (Costs as much as spellsteal)
Increase the mana cost of all spells cast by the target by 10%, and return 10% mana from all spells they cast.
Arcane mages could have talents given to them that increase the amount of mana returned.
PvE its going to be of little help, but the pvp uses would be very interesting in pvp. I'd finally have a tool to use against mana-burning priests as well.
The only other thing i would like to see is for fire to have more interactive playstyle.
Hot-streak and LB are too boring.
Give at least a 3rd proc, for example. Casting Frostbolt when you have hotstreak will consume the buff and enrage you, giving you a 15% damage bonus for 10 seconds. That should allow a slight damage bonus for those paying attention.
Finally i wuoldn't mind a talent that made evocation for fire mages offensive and hard to interupt.
Firery winds of Rebirth
Your evocation spell is becomes instant cast, regenerating 60% of your mana, increasing your fire damage by 15%, and reflecting 20% of all melee damage for 8 seconds. (It'd also make your evocation look like a burning haze effect rather then the mana-blue arcane animation it is now)

VMA Interruption
Rank 1
16% Base mana
Summons Kanye West to interrupt your target's spell cast, preventing any spell from that school of magic from being cast for the rest of the show.

VMA Interruption
Rank 1
16% Base mana
Summons Kanye West to be very happy for your target and let it finish, but to tell it that the Shade of Aran had some of the best spells of all time, preventing any of the targets spells from that school of magic from being cast for the rest of the show.
Fixed.

$%^&ing Cold Weather
Trained at lvl 85
You make the temperature go below -35, making everyone in the area (including yourself) *!@#ing cold. Anyone affected by *!@#ing Cold Weather logs out for a minute to go get some ^&*!ing hot cocoa. The ^&*!ing Cold Weather effect can be dispelled by %^&*ing Hot Weather (found deep in the Fire talent tree. Will hopefully make more mages go Fire).
Discuss.

...Typhoon is instant - shouldn't us mages be able to get a single target knockback? Deep Freeze is far underpowered compared to the other 51 point talents, IMO.
(I actually think that Typhoon is a bit OP... 30 yd range, instant damage, 20 yd knockback, AND a 6 second daze...)
Typhoon is a ultimate spell for a hybrid.
The hyrbid trees, especially for druids are cram packed with useful stuff to help bring them upto par.
A balance druid without balance talents is nothing, npcs are more dangerious
A mage without talents is just bad.
So talents in the druid'scase have a lot more work to do to make them viable. Most of those powerhouse talents are put at the highest tiers to prevent a jack-of-all-specs being viable.
Finally i'll keep my 5 second stun as opposed to a knockback that needs to be aimed, works poorly close range, and has travel time allowing dps to avoid it, and healers to outheal it.
A shattercombo stun followed by a 4 second silence is golden, as is the ability to cast it instantly
