TOC regular can supply each class with 5 peices of armor that can get you ready for naxx and OS. when you do heroic you'll get another 5 peices that will get you ready for 25-man OS

You should be fine for Normal ToC as DPS. As long as you know your class and can pull over, say 1300 DPS, you're set. More is better, though. The plus side is that you'll probably gear up quickly.
As for Heroic, you should stay away until you're much more geared. It's not the most forgiving place, being a bit of a gear and skill check for all three roles. (The tank takes much more damage, the DPs have to race to output in certain phases, and the healer has to keep them up through a lot of AoE at times.)
