If your MT can't hold aggro in a raid the whole raid bears the brunt of a single persons mistake.
Not to flame you..but you can't be serious with this comparison.
Again..yes the authenticator is a sound security device..but how about incorporating an e-mail authenticator as well. It wouldn't cost anything and a person could choose if he wanted to use it or not. Which hopefully people would and at least you wouldn't have to worry about losing it or breaking on you.

If you lose your account to a keylogger or a phishing attempt, it is your fault. End of story.
rofl the last time I saw someone make a comment like that towards someone who hhad their account hacked, it happened to them the following week.
I laughed.
Nvr had this happen tbh, not even felt at risk so far.
My tip: dont be an e-&*!@#.
Meaning: stick to your trusted sites, I have about 5 address i use regularly on my home PC. (wowEU, guild site, wowhhead ofc,and a very special hub of delights I shouldnt mention here, for the lonely times ^^).
I dont do the social networking thing, nothing against it, but I'm too old to pretend i have friends i dont rly have.
i keep all the crap (even msn and hotmail), on my work PC, cause I dont play on that, and if it blows up...ahh well, it's works :)

Again the in game comparison fails because no harm is done in game if a raid fails and I have control over whether I wish to run or not..but a hacked member has a direct affect on the entire guild.
He won't be available for raids until he gets his toon back and stuff stolen .though replaceable if blizzards chooses to do so..still takes days and I have no control over what a person is doing outside the game. Yes..I do have limits put on bank tab access..the reason why no gold was taken..but a stack of 10 is still considered just one take.
The e-mail authenticator could work in some principal as followed..
After a person creates an account he would have a choice of checking off email authentication in which no account access would be allowed unless first receiving an email from Blizz. Perhaps in the same fashion as when you forget your password and a link is sent to your email to authorize the new password creation. A person would have to click on the email link to gain account access..this way hackers could not access accounts even if they have your account and password info. Remember these hackers aren't out to steal mats and gear as much as they want your toon. They need to be able to access accounts to change password..names,realms and steal credit card.
Before some one jumps in a says "well e-mails can be hacked too"..I know nothing is fool proof but every layer helps.

As well you should. I laughed too. Seriously, it is not that hard to maintain basic security, and basic security is all you need because chinese gold farmers aren't going to spend any more time/money on getting your account than the absolute minimum. Don't open any .exe files you haven't scanned, don't open any files you get from emails unless you personally know the sender (and even then, call them up and ask them what "partypics.jpg.tff.exe" is), and run a virus/malware scan every couple weeks.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and an hour spent maintaining your computer's security is worth the days/weeks of getting your accounts back to square.

I know it easy for many of the computer savvy players to say it's easy protect oneself from fraud..but the fact that so much fraud is successfully perpetrated in all walks of life(can we say Maddoff anyone) that protecting people who are more prone to being fooled by these very polished hackers should be a concern for Blizz.
The latest attempt came in an in-game mail..that was allegedly from a guild member claim to be creating a video about the guild and want us to view it and let him know what we thought. The name at first glanced looked just like the name of our guild member.
The website he provide had an "exe" atttached at the end ..so I knew immediately this was a link to open a file..mostly likely a keylogger of some sort. I also checked his log and it stated he hadn't log for quite some time. When we were able to finally get him on we went and studied the name of the sender..after some scrutinizing.we realized the "i" letter in his name was just slightly different. Now to an untrained eye this could easily had been missed and a prone guild member could easily have been duped into typing in this exe. file thinking he/she was going to a website.
Well.I don't want to beat on this subject more then I have too..I just think it's mean-spirited when some posters say these people who got hacked deserved what they got for not being smarter. No they don't..they are nice people who are too trusting by nature and may not understand the depth of deceit that exist even for a game..and what does this say about the existence of these hackers,,that their lives are so bereft of meaning that they have nothing better to do then to try and steal an imaginary character for profit. Its like stealing a kid's whiffleball and bat so you can sell it on e-bay..how incredibly sad.

it's not the end of the story..my guild bank tab was robbed of 40 flasks as well. Does the whole guild have to bear the brunt of a single persons mistake.
I am familiar with the authenticator..why not package it along with software.
Why doesn't Blizz allow members choose if they wish to be a part of an in game security program..that would pass along information to blizz for immediate investigation..the same way our firewall/spyware programs ask us if we want to pass along any spyware/virus information to a central location.
First off, the guild bank can be controlled with a limit of daily withdrawals and deposits. Even when hitting the bank for approved items for a guild run, people may need only 2 or 3 things. Flasks, stat food and potions. Therefore for your own safety, it's prudent to put daily limits on everyone except yourself or trusted people who can confirm they are running a very secure computer setup.
haha that reminds me of a funny story.
There was a post on the EU forums from a GM from one of the horde guilds on our server (my old server) calling out an attempted scam.
The scammer pretended to be the GM's alt, and asked for an invite into the guild, then he said he need to get stuff from the GB.
The officers knowing it wasnt the GM ask him to contribute 150g into the guild bank as a show of good faith, and they would give him access.
he deposited 150g, they then /gkicked him so fast his hat fell off I'm sure.
Scammin the scammer, wonder how he felt ^^

But seriously one of the first things little kids are taught is "don't talk to strangers", I remember people from the police coming into schools and doing talks about crime and avoiding situations etc.
This is just my point..they don't approach as strangers..they come at you as Blizz communiques or guild friends.
People that kidnap children approach as a friend too..earn their trust and then.....

Beyond that, I think you should need to be level 7 or maybe 10 before you can use public channels in major cities too.

Then there will be no more banks!

Also Blizz already did something to counteract people pretending to be their employees, if one of the GM's does talk to you they have a special icon, it's in a separate chat window etc. This fact was mentioned in patch notes when introduced and I believe it is referred to in loading screen tips and the knowledge base under the help bit in game (memory blank on what it's called, same screen as where you choose whether to ticket a GM I think).
To further this, any chats with GMs also appear in a totally seperate chat window since about 3.1 (?), and any ingame mail from GMs has a lil Blizz icon too if I remember correctly?
Basic computer security goes a long way...run a scan from a decent AV/malware suite every so often. Don't visit hack sites. Don't open emails from strange addresses. No you have not won the canadian lottery that you didn't enter. Change your passwords regularly, and don't have the same login for random websites as you would for WoW. Don't give out account info to anyone. At all. AND NO CANDY FROM STRANGERS!
