I'm feral but i've tried balance for a little while and the dps on etrangling roots is negligible...
But it depends on what you prefer, playing in raids or alone outdoors?
3 points is a lot for that little tiny dps you'll get, but that's just my opinion

Quite possibly the worst talent among all three trees.

Agreed. If it boosted the dmg by 200%+ then it would be nice...

it works well if you are questing. I have noticed that if you have an add and root it and insect swarm it that about 1/4 health sometimes, more is chipped off. But it is neglible compared to being able to root and cyclone w/o problems and probably control of nature is better. But I have both because I used to play a warlock so I am DoT addict ;)

Keep in mind that it's hugely limited by Roots not being available indoors, and then look at the dps... it goes all the way from 13 dps to 20 dps - compare that to Insect Swarm, which starts at 65 dps. It's not going to set the world alight as a dot, even with a 200% boost.
Thorns goes from 25 damage per hit to 38 or so, so from maybe 13 dps to 19 dps. Again, it's not significant. Combined you might get 15 dps more, if you're fighting two targets outdoors.
Agree with Miyari that it's quite possibly the worst druid talent overall...

If it had a 200%+ increase, i.e. the dps from it was more like 50dps, then it would be nice in a few situations:
- a very even pvp fight with a melee class
- in PvE where there are a LOT of adds on a tank. 50dps x 30adds = 1500dps on the pack as a whole. still not earth shattering, but would be nice.
kinda rare situations though so still a rubbish talent :-P
...one thing that would make it an essential talent is if it had a HUGE threat multiplier on it. It would then make tanking a big pack of adds while others AoE'd a lot more viable, and would probably change a few raid encounter's tactics (Morogrim spring to mind).

Seems like this would be a rad talent for a feral Bear tank build, especially for multiple mob tanking.
But that's just me. Seeing as most druids I know, myself included, go cat form most of the time, I doubt people will go for it much. Maybe if it was lowered one tier you'd see cross-over of feral-balance druids instead of the venerable feral-resto.

Also, I was just reminded from another post I just made about Nature's Grasp...
Brambles affects your Thorns AND your Entangling Roots (from Entangling Roots, or Nature's Grasp); TWO sources of damage, not just one.
So, if you are in Bear form or Moonkin solo tanking outside, having Thorns up and Nature's Grasp will both do 75% increased damage. Still not the largest amount of damage, but just thought I'd throw that out there too.
