Pallies have very efficient heals, but they're single target only. They also have extremely long longevity in terms of mana, which is why they're good for single-target healing on main tanks over a long fight. Flash of Light is your efficient spammy heal, while holy light is not as efficient, but heals for a lot more. Holy Shock is even less efficient, but it's useful as an oh #!$% button if you don't have enough time to cast up a longer heal.
They may not have a large spell pool, but if you're a bad player (not saying you are), you're not going to do well with a Holy Pally either. They also have quite a few cooldowns that you need to manage well, which aren't direct heals themselves.
They're actually quite difficult to heal with compared to some classes, as they have no actual AoE heal or HoT. It's certainly a very different playstyle from a resto druid; it may suit you, it may not.
The best thing you can do is try it out, see if it fits your playstyle.

Wow that's surprising. My friend plays both a Priest and Druid and when he plays his friend's Holy paladin it just makes him sick.
We are the best single target healing due to our monster heals and long lasting power. When you're criting Holy Light on a tank for 18k-20k a shot and can chain cast it for a while then you'll see why.

try getting a crit with LoH and hit with at least 50k that is a good spot to printscreen
contrary to what people think there is a rotation you should keep while healing, or try hitting it as often as possible:
1. HS and instant FoL (Infusion of Light) (i assume by now that SH is always up on the target you are healing)
2. 100crit (Divine Favor) - HS - HL (bomb squad)
3. of course you can spam HL the entire fight and then brag with 3500-4000 hps , full mana at the end of the fight, and no1 on healing meters (gear required)
but i prefer to combine 1 and 2, and use 3 only if the other healers can't handle it, because with beacon up, you are godly

Its definitely going to change in 3.2, but Ive been making myself flash spam to prepare for it... and honestly... Im still JUST behind the holy priest on the meter. AND I dont even have to use any mana regen..although with the Illumination nerf, I think Ill have to soon. This time, I AM talking about Ulduar. With a pair of priests, one holy one disco, my guild was one shotting most of the 9 Ulduar10 bosses we downed that night, 5 of which I had never fought before. Keeping as much sacred shield uptime on the tank is going to be absolutely critical, especially with the added hot coming. With my flash spam success and beacon accepting overheals in 3.2, I dont see a nerf coming, just a change of play style.
Well still have the largest mana pools in the game. Well still be able to Holy Light it up when the &*!@ hits the fan. We will STILL be uber single target healers.
