I'm trying this one out now... with the change to Catlike Reflexes, haven't gotten the chance to really push it yet.

I used this spec pre-3.2 and may go back to it if halving the cooldown on Kill Command doesn't beef up my dps as much as I'm hoping. Was able to keep up and pass most SV/MM hunters with this build in most any run.
I'm not gonna say these are the best possible, peroid. They just work very well for me in PvE heroics and raids.

When I put the specs into the spreadsheet, I show that the 3 points are still better spent in imp tracking and/or imp arcane than in catlike reflexes.
Of course, if you are having trouble keeping your pet alive or if you pvp a lot, you might get better numbers with more dodge--but even 9% isnt a big deal.
I would stick with boosting your shots.

Ya, finally got some live trials in, very minuscule difference in dps so far... kinda hard getting used to two Kill Commands / Bestial Wrath instead of like three KC / 2 BW.
So far, I'll prolly go back since I don't have issues with pet mortality unless the tank dies :P

It is. I can see where it may be useful, but the overall dps boost for the hunter isn't worth the slight increase for the pet... still want to try it in Naxx or Uld though, where boss fights last longer than 1 BW, I think it might shine a little better there, or maybe pvp.

It might make a bigger difference where you arent using a devliasaur, maybe? A devilasaurs special attack, monstrous bite, isnt a huge part of his deeps from the actuall bite--the advantage is that he boosts his own AP.
But take a cat or a spirit beast, where their special attacks are, percentage wise, more part of their dps--and not just a buff--and you might see a bigger change--but for me the numbers on the spreadsheet still indicate better dps through shots.
The fact seems to be, your pet just doesnt do enough damage with "special" attacks to make it an issue.

I actually never run with a devilsaur. Their big stomping turned me off at first and never bothered to go back. I usually raid with a wolf or spirit beast and I did notice my dps did show more improvement using the spirit beast over the wolf with kill command up twice as often, but still , my overall dps seemed to suffer. Might just be some patch changes, but switched back and will see how it goes :P

You are going to get better numbers with a devilasaur, like 200-300 dps more. It is unfortunate, because I dont like them either. But on the plus side, once in a raid, you dont have to listen to them during combat--melee does. And if they drive you nuts running from one place to another, just dismiss and summon them. Hitting them with a glyphed mend pet keeps them happy.
Melee in my guild sometimes complain that he gets in the way--and they insist on hitting him with baby spice while we buff, or run into an instance, but it is all in fun.
Plus, as a raid lead--I using my dino as a marker when people arent doing what they are supposed to. . .
Got melee in front of patch or grob? I call out on vent, "melee get behind the boss, stack on the pet. What? Is he not big enough for you to see? If there isnt a scaly ass in your face, you aren't in the right spot."
Actually my BF gave me the idea for that one, when he switched from boomkin to feral, he said Denver always let him know where to stand.
Other great uses for raid leading with a Devilasaur:
Need a minute for tanks to get aggro? I use my pet as a raid marker. "No body goes in until the dino does!"
Other fun uses: while macro for a VoA pug:
/RW Attention all dps. This will be your only warning. If you do not do more damage than my pet, you will not get loot. He doesnt get loot, why should you? BTW, he pulls 1400.
One time a mage actually dropped after I hit that RW.
1400 in a 25 man isnt unreasonable, and sometimes he hits 1600+ depending on buffs.
Of course, it comes back to bite me in the butt every now in then. On Heigan I use my SV spec, and Tiki the zul'drak wolf (or, at least, I did, before I foolishly gave her up for the worgen). I wasn't raid lead that time, and the tank who was got on vent and said, "Saff, where is Denver? You have about 30 seconds to bring him back or get raid-kicked."
After I explained, guildies were spamming guild chat "Everyone, Saff isnt using Denver!"
Othertimes when I havent been able to raid, I get comments like "Thats fine. Can you just send Denver?" or "Whatever, can I borrow your pet?"
/sigh. BM hunters get less respect than gnomes, but not quite as little as gnome DKs

Well thats kinda like saying Glyph of True Shot Aura is core to MM and Glyph of Wyvern Sting is core to SV but theres no way you could say they were superior to its main spec counter glyph being Chimera and Explosive shot.
My point being, you could say BW is core but then its not an end Tier Talent.

I get what you are saying. BW is really the heart of the spec, and as its own glyph--good. However, the other 2 specs have 2 "spec-unique" glyphs and BM only has one.
It wouldn't hurt them to ad another "Beast Mastery" gylph, but it isnt nessesary either. SV hunters dont use gylph of wyvern, and MM doesnt use gylph of trueshot (i dont think)--they use their "core" glyphs, and so do BM hunters.
As for armor pen and crit pet scaling--this is just something that needs to happen, period, to save the spec. It shouldn't be a glyph, it should just happen.
Actually, though, the idea of making it a glyph of beast mastery is interesting, as it would pump up the BM pets without giving a buff to SV or MM. I could get behind that, I think.
I would certainly like to see the numbers, anyway. I would like to see 25% crit, 50% armor pen, and 50% resil. That would be more balanced.
Afterall, pets already get some of our crit, indirectly, through cobra strikes, and if they got too much crit we would never run in viper--and that would make us OP.
Armor pen is a must, if they are gonna keep slathering it all over our gear. I would like to see pets get 50% straight up, and then this gylph could make BM pets 100%.
And 50% resil would make up for the lousy job they did giving pets only 40% resil before.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to say, but the Glyph of Chimera Shot really isn't that great. It's only my 5th best glyph option for MM, and i don't think there's any argument that can be made to place it higher than 3rd.
