Berserker Stance should be what you will be in most of the time unless you are a protection warrior tanking. Berserker stance gives more DPS and not to mention, more ways to break fear. I hate to use my trinket or death wish before my berserker rage when I'm feared.
Below level 40 you should stay in BattleStance unless you need to use intercept or you are with a healer. After 40 you should start out in Battle Stance and switch between Battle and Berserker minimizing rage lost (And spec in tactical mastery). You'll soon learn that Autoswing+WW+MS+Autoswing with a high dmg two hander can do major dmg. I would stay in Berserker Stance most of the time if I'm running with a healer (Unless I really need to use Overpower and Rend on that rogue).
Before 2.3, unless you have a trinket or roll undead, you can't break out of fear in Battlestance at all. Now you can with DeathWish.
Oh and another thing, Defensive Stance is not limited to Prot Warrior at all. Good abilities in defensive stance also - Disarm, Spell Reflect and Shield bash. Basically, all stances are useful to any warrior. Which is why good warrior spec in Tactical Mastery).

Spell reflect can be used in battle stance, and pummel has a 2 second faster cooldown than shield bash. It all depends on what stance you are in for the interrupt. Disarm is always good to use on those guys that take a little longer to kill.

I usually only use this stance in PvP (nothing beats Berserker Rage to break fear and get right back to pummeling that warlock) or for DPS when someone else is tanking (nice to switch between whirlwind and cleave). I don't think the +3% to crit is worth the extra +20% damage taken unless you have 15% critical chance or less (in which situation the +3% represents a 20% boost to your critical, matching the damage penalty).
I've heard warriors go in Battle Stance to charge a target, then switch -- mid charge -- to Berserker Stance for the real one-on-one fights in PvP. I'm not sure how it works or how well, but it seems popular.

i know berseker stance is meant for fury warriors, but being
lv36
there isnt much i can do in it and
it is harder to stay alive
any tips on how to do better while in this stance
Quite a few people touched on the fact you're not 60 or 70, but I don't think they really grasped the situation.
You're using Berserker stance pre-40. I highly recommend you weigh the differences between Berserker & Battle stance at this level.
You're taking 10% additional damage to gain 3% critical strike chance...it would seem you're more likely to take more damage over the course of a fight with a mob than you will dish out to that mob. Once you get to level 40 you'll have an instant attack & be able to take down a mob much faster. You should probably just stick to Battle stance as I do presume you're using a slow two-hander.
Sure beats the heck out of Heroic Strike & Rend in zerker.

He's only level 36; it's good to introduce him to the concept of stance dancing, though I agree.
