lol. dont listen to plv. he hates BM. :P
btw, your question is too general. be more specific and you'll get more responses. (best things? what the heck do you mean by things exactly?)

Best things for a BM Hunter, eh?
Lets see... Like Plovitz said, The Beast Within is the "I Win" buttons of all "I Win" buttons.
The Beast Within
(your 41-point talent) Increases your damage delt by 10% and decreasing the cost of spells by 20%. But the main thing it does is make you immune to
all
fear, stun, root/snare, slow, and charm effects for 18 seconds. Now, 18 seconds of that to an enemy feels like a lifetime. Squishy clothies fall hard to this ability.
Serpent's Swiftness
is what makes BM a higher raid DPS than MM. 20% attack speed increase is definately noticable and you'd put out a lot more damage with it.
Ferocious Inspiration
is a very nice proc that helps yourself and your party for increasing DPS. You pet will crit usually often enough for it to up 80% of the time during raids. Rogues, Hunters, and Warriors will love you for this ability.

The poster should easily have the 11 points left over to get both out of the MM tree.
everything is good on BM except
1) no aimed shot
2) less critical strike

In PvP, intimidation can often mean the difference between a loss and a win (esp. vs. healers/bubblers). You will want GFTT from the MM tree to keep your pets focus up, and I suggest a focus dump pet ability (lightning breath, claw, etc.) to keep your damage up in both PvP and PvE. Scorpids, Windserpents, and Boars are generally regarded as the 3 top pet types for PvP, with cats and ravagers often mentioned for PvE.
I'm a leader of a very old and entirely PvP oriented guild, so my PvE experience is limited and YMMV there. I do know that Night Elf Hunters tend to prefer the cats for both styles as they can shadowmeld/prowl along with them in the Battlegrounds.

/signed Don't listen to Plovitz.
In the last 24 hours he has:
Told players you can't save macros.
Called someone a noob because 'you can't get to outlands before 58'.
And the builds in the lovely troll thread (the one that ends with ...pfff, which is a brilliant way to create discussion) are laughable.

There is a lot of information out there, be careful to verify any that you get from forums as a lot of players have their own misconceptions and will never allow themselves to learn from reliable sources. If you have questions about specific skills, check them out in wowhead as the ratings system typically allows us to weed out the misinformation.
Wish we had a rating system for posts on the forums... :-/
