Thank you syrianx for typing out a more detailed response. I actually did read up on "interior lines" and learned a bit.
You made me think of new ways/strategies to approach AB with. For one, I never considered it tactially longer to get to GM from Farm, because of the water, than to get to GM from ST. I also realized how difficult it is for Alliance to hold the ST/BS/LM triangle, thus making the Horde "golden triangle" of Farm/BS/LM superior to ST/BS/GM. That being said, I still think teamwork, communication (calling inc's), and skill outplay any other advantages. Nevertheless, I'll keep these triangles in mind as I do AB, thinking long-term about which bases are more important to hold.
Sorry that I came across as rude. It's just you hadn't explained yourself really well. But it's been a learning opportunity for me now. Thanks again for taking the time to type out a detailed explanation.

Dont be afraid to die! Its just pixels and I promise you will not feel any pain! I cant tell you how many times I have sacrificed my warlock using Hellfire to take out a group or at least knock them down so far that my other team mates have an easy job finishing them off. Obviously death takes you off the battlefield but if you take out that pain in the butt rogue, pally or whatever is being a thorn in your teams side , it may be just the edge you needed at that juncture

In fact the golden triangle exist. You can see BS from LM and if you have slowfall/levitate/parachute, you could go from LM to BS to defend it.
each faction is just as likely to have classes to exploit this, and the same thing can be done from BS to mine
I didnt say only one faction can use it. I said that the triangle exist. And no you cant do the same from BS to the mine. From BS you cant see the mine.

It is beneficial, when attacking, to fight at the node. This has been established. If it is beneficial, when attacking, to fight at the node, then doesn't that it is beneficial, when defending, to not fight at the node? This is always the logic I take; and stalling the enemy with pointless fights on the roads is a good idea, in my opinion.
As a defender, if you get feared, sheeped etc while fighting next to the flag, it's quite possible that the attacker will manage to get a cap off before you're out. If you keep your enemy off your base and die further from it, it means you have more time to respawn and interrupt their cap. If there's fighting on the flag it's harder to spot / target cappers.
Always keep an eye on the flag, and stay within reaction range to a stealth-cap, but don't hump it.

The closest thing i can come to reason out this golden triangle stuff is that the Horde have a nice easy bridge to cross to get up to the flag, and have immediate LoS on any prospective flag cappers when on the island. Ally on the other hand have to wade through water, and have a ridge which blocks LoS.
Ok, as i was typing that, i realised that its balanced out by the bridge on the Ally GM side. But personally i value LM over Gm, due to the slowfall travelling. So if both teams take go for LM and GM off the break, then you
could
argueu that horde have a very minor advantage on traveling time.
Edit. Wow, That'll teach me for skipping ahead to reply. Some one beat me too it.
