Hi everybody ;
I have 70 Mage and 70 Hunter. Now i am leveling up a BALANCE Druid. I think its very enjoying ftw moonkin form :) i want to ask you what gear i must wear? Some cloth items better than leather items so sometimes i choose cloth items. On the other hand moonkin form increases armor bonus. So is it a bad choice to wear cloth?

The single largest problem with Balance Druids at this stage is in the game is the lack of easily obtainable gear. In order to get the most out of druid, from a pure dps perspective, you will have to be wearing a few if not several cloth pieces while working on your leather set. So it's important that your guild understands that and that you don't upset other cloth users by rolling for the same gear as them.
Leather moonkin gear helps a great deal in PvP because of the armor bonus it provides, but in PvE you should rarely be getting hit therefore go for the gear that is obtainable for you that provides the most damage output you can find.

For leveling, I personally wouldn't see any problem in wearing cloth armor. I'm sure there's more than a ton of people who will see that and go "WHAT? Druids shouldn't roll on cloth they were leather blah bla blah..." What's most important is properly optimizing your character with whatever is available to you. With the armor contribution from Moonkin Form I'm sure you'd more than make up for the loss and depending on the level it may not even matter too much. In groups I would assume you would not be getting hit enough for it to matter, so you can just treat yourself as a kinda beefy mage and gear yourself accordingly with a focus on properly outfitting for DPS without having to worry about the AC so much. For solo play, in the situations that you have Entangling Roots at your disposal, your AC would matter even less since the mob won't even be able to hit you. So, while I'd probably stick to at least a few pieces of leather, don't be afraid to wear cloth!

Leather with spell damage is a rarity on pre-TBC levels (you can get some running BRD, Strat etc.), you'll get pleny of green and blue spell dmg leather while leveling from 58 to 70, you can even get some blues from heroics. After that, go cloth - because except from the tribal lw set, one craftable head and the bracers from Attumen (which suck compared to similar cloth) there's only tier & pvp sets and 3 epics from BT. Moonkin gearing sucks, simply put. Get used to cloth as soon as possible :P

On the contrary, I quite enjoyed leveling as a moonkin (beside the obvious "omg taht durid ninjaed ma robe" & "noob that ring has intellect wtf?" stuff) - I only tried feral for a short while from 50-60. And I lvled a feral druid to about 30 but I didn't like it as much :P

Balance is definitely a lot of fun... it's not as active a style as feral, since you're mostly going nuke-nuke-dot-dot-nuke-melee-a-bit-for-fun, but you've always got the druid cc's at your fingertips and Force of Nature is a great out when you're fighting multiples. The only thing is, the Moonkin getting-hit noise is starting to grate on me a little, and leather +spelldamage gear is too rare, and seems spec'ed down from the cloth equivalents.
But I have to say, I do miss cat and bear... with feral, you have 3 well-defined roles, and you swap between them and they augment eachother. It's very well rounded, and using all 3 forms is rewarding. With balance, well, you just try and stay in Moonkin as much as possible by using food and bandages, and it kinda takes over... you only use caster when you have to, and cat/bear just about never.

Basically I would do ALOT of Lower City Dungeons (Shadow Labs) for the yummy Exalted Mace. And create a filter here in Wowhead.com that looks for leather pieces with +dmg on the (rare). You'll get a t2 set look alike which is good pre-Kara gear.
As a feral druid I have 4/8 of those pieces and whenever I respec to Moonkin form I have around 750~ damage.

Itemization for moonkin is quite poor right now. You will want to take cloth gear in order to maximize your dps, but take leather when you can, too. If you are a leatherworker, you should definitely check out the crafted Windhawk set. And some of the better Moonkin items are also heroic drops, so take a look at them too. The bottom line is if you're not being hit in melee you shouldn't have to worry so much about your armor value, but it won't be fun competing with mages, warlocks and shadow priests for new armor. If you know exactly what you want out of your gear,
Lootzor
is a nice tool for finding the gear you'll like with the attributes you are looking for.
