This should not even be in discussion, it will not be close. Until they modify the damage modifier of Backstab and lower the cost or increase the combo point generation there is no contest.
How can you possibly fathom that a 60 energy, 1 CP Backstab will be close to even a 55 energy, 2 CP Mutilate as well
Basically, bottspurr is too lazy to try out something new (actually playing and learning mutilate rotations) and instead, he's using a subpar spec, while splurting out arbitrary opinions about how it's "comparable" and "competitive" dps. (Ad hominem for emphasis)
NEWSFLASH: a ~10% reduction in dps is
NOT COMPETITIVE
. The rest of the dpsers in your raid sucking/being undergeared does NOT make a spec good.

I've tried both Combat and Mutilate, and I like them too. They're fine. I just liked Backstab a little more for my own reasons - reasons I've stated and don't really want to go over again in this thread. Who knows, I may get bored with it after a while and want to switch back someday. Anyways, since when is 200 out of 7500 equal to 10%? It's 2.7%.
Back to my question though. The backstab tooltip - It say's 232% of MH dagger damage, but from the talents it should be around 250%. Is it wrong, or is one of the percentages added instead of multiplied? Do you guys know?
EDIT: Dang, my guild's 25 naxx fell through just now. I won't be getting the stats by tomorrow.

Ok, so I ran 25 OS instead. Here is the
WWS report
. So it isn't the best I've done, It was 1 drake up, and Sarth isn't exactly just a tank and spank - so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind the fact that I don't have the BEST gear in the world.
Don't pay attention to the Combat rogue at the top of the charts for the fight. He cheated. He was just FoKing the adds for the most part. Didn't really go on the dragons that much.
Ok, I'm finished with my justifications.

You intentionally posted it to show us you're right yet you've just proved your point wrong by posting that report, showing (unsuprisingly) that combat daggers is substantially inferior to other combat builds. Congratulations.

FoK Spam will get you more damage done, but less overall dps on Sarth as unless your group is an utter failure, the adds will be down fast enough for a propper sustained DPS build to overtake it.
The group
was
pretty much failure though. It took nearly 7 minutes to down him because half the people were dead after the 2nd wave. If you check the breakdown, the Combat rogue had done almost more than 50% of his damage to the adds and not the bosses. FoK will, and in this case did, raise his overall dps quite a bit. The Overall DPS shown for him, (3900), would basically be an average of the dps he did for the boss and the dps he did for the adds. So if you assume his FoK dps was around 4500 (which is very reasonable, and likely much lower than the truth) That means that his boss dps was around 3300. Like me.
Other Rogue:
Lava Blaze 751,767
Sartharion 563,296
Tenebron 176,476
Sartharion Twilight Whelp 98,691
Me:
Sartharion 920,530
Tenebron 210,930
Lava Blaze 81,721
The other rogue was literally the only person taking care of the adds. So even though he was awesome and invaluable to the raid, his DPS isn't a true reflection of what he would be doing on a single target.
But you're right. Like I said before, Backstab
isn't
a better build than Combat. But this WWS report
does
show that it's competitive, which is what I was going for.
EDIT: actually, the numbers for Tenebron are a good place to look. We took Tenebron down before the we needed to start downing the adds, so it was basically just a dps race - which I won.
EDIT2: Lol. I just realized that only 7 of us were still alive by the end to take down Sarth. Oh PuGs.

You should at least have a chance at winning to define competitive. If you're always losing to another spec, then clearly there is no competition and its not a competitive build.
