The 2 sets are the alliance and horde versions... which means you don't really have a choice if you already have a character that is decent level
the PvP sets won't get you into raids as a prot paladin, it's better to collect dungeon gear

Now forgive me for being a little dumb. But which Dungeon set can I get without raiding? Are you talking about
http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=623
Righteous Armor Set? If so I do think some of the PvP set is a ton better, still searching for another set to compare against. As for the above mentioned PvP sets I meant to put up Season 1 Arena set.
yes, that's the set
and no, PvP set's not better for a prot paladin
no defense and no avoidance,
you'd get crushed like hell in a raid

Had I read this 2 months ago, I would've been skeptical, but since I started perusing the Wowhead forums and read some of the excellent Pally info here (including the prot guide) as well as doing a minor bit of number crunching, I've been AMAZED at how much difference it made.
"It" being defense.
Remember - 490 is your friend. Rule of thumb is that in order for a +3 mob to be unable to crit you, you have to have your base defense (your level * 5, or 350) plus an additional 140 defense (125 to get you past the base 5% crit chance all mobs get, and another 15 to cover the additional crit chance because of the level difference) to be uncrittable.
To me, this looks like PvP gear designed to make you better in PvP...
