Let's take this one instance at a time.
CoT Dark Portal.
Orcs return to Azeroth. Much war, much death. But gave rise to Thrall. Probably the best leader the horde could have.
CoT Escape from "yay dynamite!"
Thrall doesn't become warchief. Why is this bad? Because...
CoT Mount Hyjal.
There is no reason for this, really, it's just fluff, but without Thrall leading the horde, there would likely have not been enough force to properly delay Archimonde long enough for the fireworks.
And then everyone is dead. I'm fairly sure this is a bad thing.
CoT Culling of Stratholme
First one that actually doesn't directly or indirectly poke Thrall. While much can be said about Arthas and the damage he caused even became part of the Lich King, his presence did lead to a lot of major players moving about. But, consider, that the Culling is not the work of the Lich King, but of a paladin who fell from the Light. Still quite clearly Arthas, just starting to lose sight of the ideals he was trained to.
Prince Arthas Menethil, the Paladin, destroyed Stratholme.

On a small scale, there is no clear point where you could go "well, it really wouldn't be so bad if..."
Without the forces in place where they were, it's quite possible that there would have been noone to stop the Burning Legion from destroying Azeroth.
The status quo is worth saving because it could be far far worse.
