In vanilla there were plenty of mobs with a low drop rate for an item, in burning crusade this changed, instead there were rare spawns with all the pretty stuff. The idea behind this was to free up player time so instead of running around killing hundreds of mobs they could be doing something else, such as questing or doing raids/heroics. There is even an achievement for killing the rare loot mobs -
Frostbitten
.
World drop epics are also not gone,
Je'Tze's Bell
is a world drop epic with an ilvl of 200.
Hidden quests are still in the game, i'm sure quite a lot of you missed this quest while in storm peaks -
Armor of Darkness

Don't forget the new raptor pets; 8 totals, 2 from instances, 4 from rarespawns, and one from the insane raptor Gundrak grind, and of course the one you buy from the pet shop vendor.

It seems to me that vanilla WoW was full of small surprises. Shame we cant say that for the expansions.
I was quite astonished by the
epic
cheeziness of not one, but
two
Jormungar wyrms, but there is still rare stuffz.

MAKE US WORK FOR EVERYTHING
If I wanted video games to feel like work, I'd get a job in the game industry.
