AOE Grinding: I'm doing it wrong?

Okay, I'm having some serious issues with AOE grinding on my mage. I've never tried it before and I decided to give it a try, but I'm not loving my results. My mage is level 27, here is my
spec
. My technique is to use Mana Shield, gather mobs, frost nova, blink, and then chain blizzard.
My main problem is with the gathering. I have two issues with it.
1. My mana shield ends up breaking after I've agrroed my second mob. Which results in me being at 20% health by the time the gathering is done, or I don't have enough mana to finish off the mobs if I chose to reapply mana shield
2. If I manage to get more than 2 mobs at a time (which is fairly rare), about 75% of the time at least one of them resists my frost nova, witch usualy results in my dying...a very sad and hopeless death
I have about 2.2k mana, and 800 health.

I used to Aoe grind about 20 mobs at once when i fist hit 80 i must have make about 5k gold in a day or 2.
I did do a lot of aoe leveling as well, problem with it is though by the time you gather up 4-5 normal mobs your loosing them as you go. your best to find tightly packed mobs and aoe them down.
like the guy above said you really need to be 40 to make it worth wile.but when i dinged 30 i got my mount and hit up arathi highlands i think it was, the mobs in the farm were great tight packed and no casters or ranged.
i think i recall just popping mana shield and running in on my mount trying to aggro as many as i could then ice blocked to let the slow ones catch up as soon as ice block was down frost nova and blink dont even turn around just cast bliz on them and you should be sweet.

thanks for the advice so far, but any idea why my frost nova is being resisted so often? All of the mbos I'm going after are actually lower level then I am.

i duno about aoe grinding personally.
i havent honestly aoe'd (intentionally) outside of a party since..... pfft, what? lvl 50 or so.
imo the downtime (blizzard takes a big chunk of mana lol you definitely will not be chain pulling :P) is only outweighed in terms of time taken to level if the pulls are large, and if youre having resistance issues (which resolve themselves as you go on-- i dont think a mobs resisted a spell of mine since.... well almost ever tbh i cant remember the last time one was fully resisted) then large pulls can get hairy.
definitely, i think aoe grinding is the perfect filler for those hellish mid-levels, like 30-50 or so...
single target i could burn down a mob in no time flat, then id move on to pull another and another and.....
after a while (as i hit badlands so.... 40?) i started aoe grinding because there was a very high density of melee mobs in the area, and the xp rolled in at a very nice rate, so i stuck with it for like 10 levels.
once i hit outland tho, i leveled so quick single-target.... chain pulling mobs for 500 (1000 when rested), i shot into helfire then out of the netherstorm in like... a week and a day, all the while working a 40 hour schedule lol
in northrend, i accidentaly reverted by necesity to a lil aoe grinding action (wtf is up with mob density in northrend in some places?) and it took almost 4 full blizzes to knock out 3 of the nerub'an mobs-- just the puny lil ones i can icelance out (for like... 150 mana a spell) in 20 seconds.
definitely i think the mid levels are time to aoe grind, not before 30 or 40, and after about lvl 50-55, youll do better with a constant stream of uptime xp single-target wise. plus things are much less... potentially messy. single-target i can take most anything with enough time and kiting. aoe, its alot more challenging to manage
but im a noob so :P

okay, this is all nice and stuff, but my main problem has yet to be adressed.
How can I gather more than 3 mobs without dying on the pulling process? I've tried running by them, wanding them, almost everything.

umm well i cant understand why you are dieing if you are following what people said.
1st way not to die. mount up they hit you a lot less.
2nd. frost armor the mobs will hit you once and be slowed
3rd.when pulling the mobs don't run straight over them just in aggro range will do
4.find a good place to grind with mobs tight packed

the farms are great around 30 + if i remember correctly

i suggest mage armor instead of frost armoe, just because of the whole random mob freezing effect-- that makes life much harder.
really though, the only way to live through it (and have mana to spare) is to aggro mobs at their absolute max aggro range and try to keep em far away, at least until you get ice block (which makes aoe grinding a breeze, at least until it starts taking 4 blizzards to down a pack ><)
really and truly, the only way to successfully aoe grind is to have the tools at hand, and at 27 you dont really have the tools.
tbh id just single-target down exclusively quest mobs (grinding is never quickest, except in a few rare occassions when you hit that wall) until you hit 35-40ish, and then id revert to aoe grinding again.
you just dont really have the tools to do it in a large scale, and to overcome the downtime, the pulls need to be bigger to outpace single-target xp gain. so until you can handle upwards of 5,6 mobs at a time, its probably quicker overall to have a steady income of single-pull xp
though grinding blows, so id say just level-- if you need 10 wolfs, aoe em all down in one pull-- but aoe grinding is just a slightly more entertaining form of the boring, mind-numbing grind we all know and hate.

I'm surprised you haven't been flamed more for asking a question you could have found the answer to in a sticky.

Now you're just trolling us. Does this mean you found the answer in a sticky already?
well I had read the stickies before, but I did not see the answer that I was looking for (which was why I was $%^&ing up so badly)
I kind of figured that I would be told to go read the sticky, but I am very happy that people chose to give me advice instead. So yes, I now feel like my questions have been answered. Thank you.
