it absolutely doesn't matter which is why choosing a pet based on the buff they provide is far more important...
BUT, people who are involved in discussing the finer points of 'warlocking' on fora like this are min/maxers by nature and if a succubus gave just 5 more dps than a felhunter, that would be enough for most. in fact the difference is quite a bit more than that, 50-100 on a test dummy and far more with raid buffs so it's worth giving pet choice a little thought before each fight.
@avime, yes, haste is that good. DoTs naturally have a very high DPET (damage per execute time) but what pulls affliction dps down is the fact that shadow bolts have relatively low DPET. haste is a very efficient way to increase SB's DPET which provides a great boost to overall output.
oh, and haste does effect channelled spells like drain soul.
also, YMMV = your mileage may vary.
it's used on fora like this to suggest that the results you see may differ from the advice given due to external factors.
using what i said as an example, i said that the succubus will perform better than an imp. all things being equal this is true but if you're in a caster heavy group with a elemental shaman providing the spellpower buff and no melee your imp's buffs will make it much better. so YMMV is a disclaimer.

Doomguard only needs to be in auto attack. Maybe some stomps to adds. He has the greatest dps by far. So use him whenever you can.

exactly. i think that taking demonic power (improves imp and succy) is a good idea and just use whichever pet is needed.
i suppse the decision making process would be along these lines:
doomguard > fel intelligence > blood pact > spell lock(FH) > succy > imp
doomguard if it's off cooldown.
if not then do you need a buff?
if not do you need spell-lock?
if not then is the fight likely to kill your succy?
if so then use the imp.
