Whatever happened to special green drops?

I mean uncommon-quality greens that weren't randomly enchanted. They were all unique in some way. Like
Tigerbane
or
Arcane Robe
. I was always excited when I found some unique green drop with it's own blend of stats, especially when I was new to the game.
There don't seem to be any in Burning Crusade or Wrath. All green drops are randomly enchanted ones. What happened?

The speed of item replacement seemed to shift, too.
Compare the required levels of Blacksmithing and Tailoring items from skill level 1 - 30 and compare them to Jewelcrafting items from skill level 1 - 30.
While Blacksmiths are busy making worthless green items for level 6 characters, Jewelcrafters are making valuable items for characters level 10 and above, where each level might last more than an hour or two.

TInitially it was important since most of your time was spent leveling so the leveling items were worked on a little more, now it's all end game and phat expix lewt, so that's all they care about. Green gear gets replaced, purple gear gets remembered.
Ah, this makes sense. I still don't like it though. I feel that a little bit of the charm of the game was in strange and new items around every mob corpse.

Well I agree that not implementing more of those really "Unique" items makes the game more streamline I would rather have blizzard spend time in making cool mounts/epic gear and stuff that you will use instead of just greens

It's not just green items. The blue items are pretty much in the same boat. Think about the huge number of item models used in classic, and to a lesser extent Burning Crusade, and compare that to what we have in Lich King. There's at most three models for each armor type, along with some minor coloration and texture variations. Weapons aren't much better. Maybe we don't look like the before pictures from
What Not To Wear
anymore, but there's not much individuality, either.

That is true.
Same with most non-tier epic drops from raids, recoloured versions of items.
