updated for 3.2. Many minor changes to reflect gaming as it is now on specs and equip.
Resilience got a huge buff especialy for affliction locks, our pets got a 3ple buff (Resiliance penetration 3min fel dom), haunt got buffed. Its a warlock happy day :D
Affliction lock will mate well with any healer. Remember your healer must help you in dps... So anyone will do. Maybe this is the priority order

Shaman
Priest

The upcoming season will see more focus on 3's as your 2's rating won't count towards qualifying for arena gear any more.

Specs
I suggest the first two trees for pvp:
1.
Deep affliction
2.
Deep Destruction
Your Destruction link is broken for those who might need it...

So I just recently starting playing again (hadn't played since tbc) and I've been looking over deep affliction builds. I'm trying to find something that will work well in both BGs and Arenas. I came up with this ~>
My Afflock Build
Basically I'm looking for reasons why this build would suck. My guy is only 71 right now so I can't really try this stuff out. I had twinked this guy at 39 a long time ago and have been doing bgs in every single bracket since I decided to start leveling him. So basically I'm very used to playing affliction at all the earlier levels but I'm trying to think ahead and figure out what would work best at 80. The major difference in this build and most I see is the lack of Fel Dom/Master Summon/Demonic Aegis. I have never once needed to switch my pet out in mid battle (I usually run with the Fel Hunter, but have used my VW a bit more recently) and I guess I'm wondering why everyone specs into master summoner. Is this something that I'll have to do in arenas all the time or what? I mean, what would make you switch anyway? I thank you in advance for any thoughts you might have.
edit: To the OP - Since this thread is for beginners, why not link to the crafted blue set?

I Agree with HokiePokie. Resilience that high is nice, but it kind of cripples your damage output.. So your choices are take less damage, but put out less. Or take more damage, and put out more.
However if you end up getting ganked in BG.. Resilience isnt really going to help a clothy out too much..
I think the higher Resilience benefits way more in Arena though. In arena, i would rather put out less damage but survive that much longer..
@ ElFishoIII
Your build looks pretty much like a typical Afflock apart from removing some pretty good skills.. Fel Dom.. Is good when you need an instant Pet or Lock bubble(VW). Less mana = Good.. Although you can lifetap to get mana bank when needed... Demonic Aegis. I find it huge.. More spell damage or more defense depending on which one you give is huge.
Afflock's are fun but you need to be running 90% of the time due to your lack of burst(Pretty much none). Id say give it a shot. If it works, good.. if it doesnt, respecc...
As for Crafted blues.. with everyone leveling from 75-80 in AV.. You can get the honor in no time for your hateful pieces... Blues would be a waste. Just my opinion...

So I updated the spec a bit. Added fel dom and demonic aegis (still skipping master summoner). Also got rid of soul siphon and improved drain soul (the combo of the two are great in pve, I was just stubborn about letting them go). I'm having a hard time deciding between imp fear or nightfall. I've used nightfall since I was in my 30s and it comes in very handy if you know when to use it, but I'm thinking imp fear would be really good to have, especially in arenas. I thought about going with imp fear and just glyphing for nightfall, but I really like the three glyphs I have set up. I could always drop imp life tap, but I use that
all
the time. Much more so than fear or nightfall really.
Anyhow, here's the new spec with glyphs, and the gear I'll have once I hit 80 if anyone is interested.
Spruance @ 80
I also realize that I'll probably have enough honor for at least a few deadly pieces once I hit 80(woot season 7), I was merely mentioning the blue set because it's there, and it really is better than greens. Also, money really isn't an issue for me, and I don't raid, so why not? Also I'm a tailor, so I got the cloth portion of the set basically free.
Thoughts and comments always appreciated :D
edit: I have no idea what wand I'm going to wind up with (eek)

I'm so stupid. And wrong offcourse since I am not British. Please correct me and put
Hateful Gladiator's Spellblade
and ofcs dont forget the
Hateful Gladiator's Touch of Defeat
. Most important you will need to get the
Hateful Gladiator's Grimoire
.
If you cant find those at any ventor ticket to a GM. If he tell you that they dont exist ask him if he is british. If he tells you that he is not tell him that he is mistaken and that he is stupid.

its 20% haste with 6% chance. 20% haste on a 6% chance with NO internal cooldown can save you a lot of times. A fast fear, a hunt cast, or even a quick drain mana can make a huge difference in a match. Count it as a 20% haste buff because you will use it when it will proc...
On the other hand to give a pet that you dont use too much anyway a buff that small doesnt worth it in my opinion.
