So, guild was short of a healer, for Naxx, long story short i went to respec/reglyph, dusted off and regemmed my holy gear. I level holy 70-78 (ish) so i know how to heal 5 mans and stuff without too much trouble.
The problems came when i looked at the meters. Now i know meters often lie (well, are innacurate), but the thing is i was running with a resto druid and he was pushing around 55% healing, and i was left at 35% or there abouts of healing done. Now i know his AoE heals are gonna be much better than mine, but seriously, thats like 20% differnce in heals. Also my overheal numbers were over 50% and his were a meagre 20%ish.
I was judging wisdom as the prot pally was judging light, so i know i probably "lost" a bit from that, but i used bacon quite a bit on the MT/OT whilst healing the rest of the raid (generally with FoL)whilst keeping the tanks topped off with holy shock/light when needed. I also found that by the time my heal had landed more often than not the druids hots had made it pretty much moot in casting my heal in the first place.
Currently using Glyph's of SoW, HL and FoL. Mana at just under 20K, crit at 34%, haste 350ish, spl pow 1800 (UB figures). Spec 51/2/18.
Am i doing something wrong here? can i expect to ever be higher on effective healing? is it the bad synergy of a resto druid HoT's with a pallies direct heals causing this? Just looking for a bit of feedback as it was rather disheartening and i felt like i was being carried a bit (which is irritating).

Being out-healed by a good Resto Druid in Naxx is pretty normal, I think. HOTs don't tick if someone is at full, from everything I've heard, so that's why their overhealing is so much less than yours. Your overheal amount is about right.
Tanks don't take a lot of damage in Naxx, but there is a fair amount of raid damage (not enough, but a fair amount). Throw beacon on the tank and start sniping heals from anyone who takes a bunch of damage from aoe, if you want to be higher on "effective healing", but as long as people aren't dying, don't worry about it.
Don't get into the habit of beaconing the tank and sniping heals too much though, I hear it doesn't work well in Ulduar because of the damage tanks take. :)

You're going to be around 50% overheal at the lowest and druids are going to be in the low 20s.
You know, I see this number thrown around a lot. However, when I'm healing, my overhealing almost never exceeds about 55% and on good days it's around 40%. Not the 50-70% I see announced everywhere else. People doing 70% overhealing in Naxx (which most of the comments seem to refer to), VOA, or OS (no drakes) need to get back into the reactive healing thing. Naxx stuff doesn't hit hard enough to justify wasting mana on 70% overhealing. :/

Have you ever had to endure the boredom of naxx 10 with 29k mana buffed and your just running other people to gear them, if its actual progression work the numbers are normally around the 40-60% margin. That being said i have seen people (mainly me) get as high as 87% overheal on some fights. In the end if you have mana left and people aren't dying you really shouldn't be too fussed by the meters.
Onto the OP's post now. Druids are awesome teamed with holy paladins, they keep everyone topped off fairly well and in spike damage the paladins fast large "recovery" heals (1.4sec holy lights) keep the tanks up. I think it would also make an interesting arena combo winning without ever hitting your opponent merely boring them till point of leaving (note i'm yet to find anyone crazy enough to test this with me xD)
P.s. (yes i post as my train of thought goes along) Think of it the way prot paladins look at the argent defender talent. It may only be that small margin, but its that small margin thats the difference between a success and a wipe.

You guys really must be that bored huh?
Even doing Naxx10 after completely overgearing it, I find it fun. I suppose it's just me though. I don't spam heals on people who don't need it because they don't need it, I find it more fun to DPS in that time. :o
Casting out an Exorcism, refreshing the Judgement, and throwing Holy Shock on the mob rather than a party member provides me entertainment. Meleeing is nice too, if the fight allows it! :D
And if I have a good Resto druid healing alongside me, I'm basically a DPS except for Razuvious, 4 Horse, Sapph/KT, Patchwerk, and to a limited extent, a couple other fights.

How do you guys overheal so much? I've healed through pretty much everything at this point and I'm never above 35% overhealing and I'm always on par with my other guild healers =/

I just spam holy light on things in naxx. There's no reason to conserve at all in most fights. Unless you're really short healers (or intentionally using less for more DPS).
It's fun (less boring) to just try to see how much healing you can get out, overhealing be damned.
