^ That.
A healer alt of mine has healed all sorts of DK Tanks (Blood, Frost and Unholy), none of them specced or geared for Tanking and I couldn't care less. As long as they understand how tanking works, know their priorities and can pull mobs off me in a pinch, they're fine.
Speccing tank isn't "necessary" for DKs like it is for Paladins/Warriors, but tank gear/spec does make for a smoother run.

There is absolutely no need, whatsoever, to spec for "tank only" talents while tanking a non-heroic instance unless you have an offspec healer. A competent healer is more than enough to make up for the extra incoming damage, and the threat should come with the spec.
Speccing tank only becomes "required" at heroic content or beyond. Before that, i'm happy to take and DK who ticks the Tank box in LFG.

Complete and total BS.
There's a difference between being a DPS spec and a Tanking Spec on a DK, each tree has talents designed for tanking, and designed for DPS.
You have to take the proper talents to do the proper role.
They're not talking about ENDGAME, they're talking about LEVELING. What you said is true for ENDGAME, but for tanking in non-heroic Outland dungeons tomgc is totally correct.
