Abandon the quest, then return to the quest giver. I can't remember exactly how the quest goes, but I do know that anything the quest givers hand to you when you pick up a quest will be given to you again, once you abandon/pick up the quest once more.
Second time's a charm :)

Yeah, you should be able to abandon it and re-accept.

The Barding and the Scryer are both provided in the satchel, so you'll get them both back when you accept the quest again.

As everyone has said, abandon and re-accept the quest from the guy in Silvermoon. He'll re-give you all the mats you need.
This time bring either a friend or a crew to help you. I ran it with a DK guildy of mine and it went with a breeze. You kill the main guy in the church, then the 5 paladins that appear after. Make sure you bubble if they somehow start attacking you. Hopefully your friend can grab them off you in time though.

He's alliance.
The quest is very different.

He's already spent too much gold to back out right now.
For those of you who are trolling this - SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND AGGRAVATION. Just wait until level 61 where you can train the Summon Charger for pennies and
go buy the riding skill at Eastvale Logging Camp.
For the OP - drop quest, go back to cathedral and pick it up again. Return to dungeon with level 80 friend and profit.
But it's such a looooooooooooooong run :(

Ew, nvm then. Much much harder to do (full group or a few 80's?). So alliance don't even get a talbard or achievement for completing it?

Alliance get a feat of strength, just like horde.
The quest event is soloable at 80. Just like everything in scholomance.
If you've only ever played horde you might've done the event before
in another form.

The quest is soloable at level 60 as a prot paladin.
It's definitly worth doing the quest line if not for the achievement it's a good quest line all in all.
As for the OP it's safe to go back and reaquire the quest. The destruction of the quest item is only because some quest items come with charges and they're most oftenly unique so all quest items aquired when picking up quests are destroyed when abondoning them. And if they weren't unique running around with 3 bags full of magically imbued horse feed aint that funny.
