I've been comparing these two trinkets and I'd like to see someone with RAWRing experience pit these two against one another. Since I don't know how to use the program properly, I'd like to see how they come out in a test run against each other.
Sundial
vs.
Broodmother
edit: the comments on each of the items seem pretty clear that people prefer the Broodmother trink. Either way, what does RAWR show?

Last I checked RAWR, which doesn't happen very often, it somewhat depends on what your spec and gear is. But if you can just keep the proc alive I'd take (and do take) Brood, if you can't keep it up thou then it becomes somewhat less nice.
Interestingly Broodmother is also a bit bugged on aoe; not all dmg spells proc or refresh proctimer. Example; Blizzard doesn't do anything for Broodproc. Flamestrike, arcane explosion proc. I'm hoping this is a bug they'll fix "soon".

Dragon soul is afflicted with the same thing. So I believe it's working as intended.

But it's kinda odd that it just seems to be Blizzard that doesn't trigger it while some other AOE spells does. I'm thinking this is more of an oversight then "working as intended", on the other hand if it was perhaps they would have fixed it by now. Still doesn't make it any less odd.
The drawback of these stack trinkets is always that in most fights you have to move, things happen to you etc and you drop the stack and have to start over again. A lot of it can be overcome by just some planning but some you just have to learn to live with, currently stack loss seems to occure the most when you loose controll over your character (fear, fear and fear - auriya & yogg - or you have to wait between attacks - vezax).

It makes perfect sense if you think about it. The tooltip on
Eye of the Broodmother
states that each time you
cast
a spell you gain 25 spellpower. When you cast a channeled AoE like Blizzard, Hurricane, or Rain of Fire you are casting ONE spell and so it triggers the buff ONCE. Each of the pulses in this channeled AoE doesn't count as a individual cast so it doesn't proc the buff.
You say that it is a downside of these trinkets that the spellpower stack can fall off. Of course it is, but you have 10 seconds to cast a spell before it falls off so it's not that big of an issue. What's nice about the Eye of the Broodmother trinket is that it takes less time to max its stack compared to Illustration of the Dragonsoul.

if u are in a spot on a boss where u will stop casting for 10 sec, cast an arcane explosion to refresh the buff if u are concerned about it wearing off
I think a more economical solution would be to cast an ice lance.
