Strange framerate problem lately

Hi guys, I've quite recently started having problems with my framerate and it's causing annoyance to the point it's spoiling the game for me. Let me first say that I've been playing this game on what is my current rig for the past 16 months and until recently I have always run this game at a solid 60fps at 1900x1200 (my monitors default). I have always had the effects on full except shadows. In other words I havent changed any settings at all.
This seems to have co-incided with the latest significant patch so I am hoping for some advice. I'll log in to the game without problem and can be playing from anywhere between 2 minutes and 15 minutes on my usual seetings at 60fps when all of a sudden BAM my framerate starts to go bad. The icon will show I'm running between 35 and 50fps but in truth it feels worse. It has nothing to do with how detailed the area is that I'm in or what I'm doing - it really is random. Just now I was walking my lvl10 alt through silverpine forest when I suddenly this bad framerate kicked in and I was just walking in a simple straight line along the path.
If it's any use I've also noticed that since this began I have noticed the occasional glitch in the texturing of the ground, wether it be grass or stone I sometimes have a graphical glitch pop up when the floor texture looks slightly messed up, though this is seldom.
Thanks in advance.

The graphical glitches make it sounds like it might be a video card issue. Have you tried opening up the case and dusting a little? Make sure that your card is properly seated when you do that. It may sound silly, but it's something you should probably do every once in a while anyway.
Make sure your video card drivers are up to date too.

I had a similar problem but it only happened in the transition from inside a cave to outside. The whole game would just freeze for up to 30 seconds and then it would start working again but the fps was pretty horrible 5s and 10s for a few minutes. If I turned the camera back inside the cave, the fps would shoot back up. I had no problems with any other games, so I could only conclude it was something wow was doing. Like for some reason it maybe was clearing all the outside stuff from video RAM and when I came back outside it was starting from scratch. I haven't noticed this bug since 3.1 came out though.
