Cure cancer? LoL, its not like a virus, the only way to 100% cure cancer is to be able to destroy the cells in a person's body and replace them all. Our current system is to wipe out certain areas and hope the cells regenerate, but when the cancer spreads all throughout the body that fails.

There is no one cure for cancer; there are so many different types.

QFT.
I hope this post wasn't a failed attempt at a joke. Cancer isn't something you joke about.
My father has cancer and will be undergoing surgery to remove the tumor at the end of June. Hopefully they will be able to remove it all, but they don't fully know the size of it and say they won't until they are in there to take it out. It is a life changing disease, so I sincerely hope that this was not a crude joke.
I was 100% serious :D, and I hope your father is all right after that =).

It's not unreasonable to think he may believe it to be true without it actually being true, especially if your father and his friend don't have intimate knowledge in oncology. Personally, I doubt we'll see a catch all cure for cancer
in our lifetime
ever.
As far as I know, cancer is an unwanted mutation of a cell that can spread destorying other cells. To stop mutation (if it is even possible) you would detroy evolution, and we would never be able to adapt to new environments - dooming the species to extinction.
Unless you stop mutation, then manually alter genetics to grant artificial evolution (which alot of people oppose for some reason), I can't see any other way of curing cancer.
If there is a specific cause of cancer though, and it's not just random mutation, maybe it could be cured/prevented. As for the trees being a cure, I heard masturbation was a great way to prevent cancer - lets all make love to the trees!

Viruses are not curable. As is stands, cancer is more curable than any virus.
Says who? Some viruses are curable.
Edit: Grammar mistake.

False. False to the max. Viruses are usually stopped by your own antibodies. Cancer by definition can't be stopped on your own. Its simply having mutant cells that aren't destroyed by your own body quickly enough.
Like I said, the only 100% cure for cancer is destroying your entire body and remaking it. We currently do the same thing to a lesser extent, we look for where cancer starts, and destroy that area and an area around it, although that fails if the cancer hits the blood stream and spreads throughout the rest of the body.
