Some of the version of the models being played around with by blizzard have portions of armor on them most notably the shoulders.
But your idea is definately new to me and unique I'll give you that.

Well I can't find it anymore nor can I remember which blog it was on :(
On a side note some of the Spore versions of the boomkin are entertaining.

What I was thinking was what if set bonuses also give you a different look in respected forms. Cuz when you see a druid in form you can't even tell their gear lvl without inspecting them this way you would be able to and will give another reason to get tier/season gear.
just think tier 8 polar bear or something along those lines. that'd be cool.
Awesome idea, but wouldn't Ulduar geared bears be more suited to a Robot/Stone Skin?

Well I just want some more unique forms, I've been looking at the same druid form your years now.

would be kinda fun to have your form look better when better geared yes, but think of the downside... if you're crap geared or still gearing up for heroics you'd be ugly like hell...
the downside keeps me from supporting this idea, i think a lot of people lower geared won't like that downside...

Hmmm not sure on this one tbh. It's an interesting idea but for myself I don't like it. I still think that other ppl not knowing how well or badly geared we are works in our favour, at least from a PvP point. And in PvE I jut let my actions do the talking rather than my gear. However I know I am in the minority as I'm not interested in the asthetics of the game.
true in some degree, i still don't like to change into tree of life form in BG's since they KNOW i'll be healing... if i heal in normal form... yeah my heals will be less good, but i won't get instant "bash that healer!" agro untill they realize i'm healing instead of casting dmg spells...

...a level 80 Druid in caster form is very suspicious to me... <_<

That idea is actually probably the simplest idea I have heard for new druid forms: a hidden secondary effect with each tier set bonus to use a slightly altered model. It's still a lot more work compared to modeling other classes (because each set bonus needs an updated cat, bear, tree, moonkin skin, plus coloring, and possibly new models depending on the depth of customization, in addition to caster models for all the races), but a lot easier than creating an armor-enabled model for the four shapeshift types, and then modeling every possible armor onto the new models. Model.
On the flip side, if the development staff did it properly, they'd probably create an armor-capable model of those forms for the set bonuses anyway. That way, rather than creating a completely new model from scratch for each set bonus, they work like player-race mobs where they just throw on gear sized and altered to fit the armor-enabled model, and the set bonus changes model your forms pull from.
Model.

I told my guildies and friends a while back they should have extra models in game that change based on your current average item lvl...
they already have a system in game that checks your item lvl (think the siege weapons health from Ulduar).
the higher your item lvl (at certain amounts) your the skin of your toon's shapes changes... that way you got to "show off" your gear lvl.
