I have some performance issues with WoW, and I don't know the reason.
My spec:
P4 3.00Ghz
2*1GB DDR2 RAM Dual Channel
GeForce 9800GTX with 1GB VGA
- Acer 1440*900 19" screen
I know the weak spot is the processor, but since I had no problems running Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent with some decent graphics, I don't really understand why my FPS is around 25-30 in Borean with every slider under 'effects' on minimum except View Distance and Env. Detail - both are halfways, so I can see some mobs before they aggro me ^-^
I'm running Windows XP, and some other reason can be this: it is quite old - I have it since 2003 without reinstalls or anything - that might be a problem, but idk.
Thnx - OlSom

Have you updated your gfx card's firmware recently? Do you regularly check your computer for viruses and spyware? When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive?

Viscero: Self-built.
Incendium: Yes, i did, yes i do, but the last one... i guess i never did it actually. I'll do it today.

So.
Just to be sure, I've manually updated the scanner (McAfee) and did a Full Scan - nothing found.
I've also updated the VGA's driver.
The defrag didnt worked really well, there were several files it couldnt defrag, including some WoW MPQs. But anyways, I did this one too.
One more thing I did was to clean out the PC casing with compressed air. There was a LOT of dust inside ...
After that, I tested:
Both at 1440*900, multisampling 1x, and Vertical Sync off.
Arathi / Alterac - Thoradin's Wall looking at Arathi Highlands
- Min: 110-120
- Max: 26-30
- Max-without Shadow: 40-50
Borean Tundra - Fizzcrank Airsrip, on the 'tower' where you can teleport up
-Min: 55-70
-Max: 10-15
-Max-without Shadows: 20-30
So one of these thing definitely helped!
